Why was this game not popular? I think it must have been the box art! I randomly played this gem on an emulator recently, and it was so good that I bought the cartridge!Conquest of the Crystal Palace is an above-average sword-slashing platform game. You control a Prince who, with his dog, is storming his family’s former home to take it back from some bad guys. The gameplay is unique in that you can call your dog into battle at any time to help you fight the demons and zombies and birds. The controls are fairly solid. The difficulty is pretty well balanced, although the 2nd level seems to be quite a bit more challenging than levels 3 or 4.The story is progressed through a series of encounters with a girl named Kim (who also sells you weapons and items). While you are shopping, she dresses as a news reporter and gives you a special report on the scenario (or the weather…). It’s kind of bizarre, and pretty funny.Overall, the game has a rather whimsical vibe to it. The box art is in no way reminiscent of the game’s style. The graphics are all fairly cute, and the music is upbeat with an eastern melody. If you like to play old NES platformers, this one is a rare treat for 50 cents or so on retrolio. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy.

My first AAA nes game, good memories. I would say that if you haven’t played this game, you should give it a try. This game is excellent.

I Owen over 100 NES games and this one is one of the best. It’s a platform game. Your primary weapon is a sword, but you can also shoot fireballs and there are upgrades for both. You can summon and dismiss your dog who fights along side you and has a health bar of his own.there is a lady that is at certain spots in each level who when you reach you are taken to a separate store screen. Where you can spend the money dropped by your vanquished foes. Not all stores have the same prices and some stores carry items that most don’t.I love that your character dose a little victory dance after beating a boss. Also the music and graphics are good for the 8-bit generation.

To have received the real deal (the game and the manual all in the box brand new) at a humble price (not that $80 to $100 or much higher bulls***); I’d say that there are still some honest people in the world. The game play is right up there to!

What a fun, challenging, platformer I grew up playing! Now 25+ years, I get to play it again!!!!

  8. Lynn

An under appreciated classic of the NES era! One of my favorite games on the console. Also, level 2 has some fantastic music!!! And let’s be honest, Kim the item shop girl is adorable

  9. IsaiMoore

The next greatest NES game, okay well probably not. It is a sleeper hit tho.
