When the original Dead Space came out, it was the new kid on the really, REALLY crowded block of mediocre survival "horror" games that were not even all that "horror-y". After impressing critics and fans alike for its amazing third person gameplay and being incredibly replayable, Dead Space 2 comes back to reclaim its throne of survival horror. But is it as good as the first one?Dead Space 2 takes everything that was so good from the first game, fixes its few flaws (wonky stomp mechanic, no more!), adds more content, improves the already great graphics, and gets rid of the cheap jump scares and replaces them with truly disturbing scenarios involving Isaac’s developing dementia.Speaking of which, the story of Dead Space 2 now takes place several years after the original game on the floating city dubbed "The Sprawl." Throughout the game, Isaac is haunted by the events of the first while trying to figure out why the government won’t leave him alone. His story of survival is a mature, detailed one; something many games that share the title "survival horror" lack. The gameplay of Dead Space 2 is also very, very fun. The controls have been modified to be much friendlier to the player. You can now reload while not aiming your gun, melee enemies quicker, and use your telekinesis module as a weapon in itself for when ammo gets scarce (and on higher difficulties, IT WILL). This makes the overall game much more enjoyable, and it still has the New-Game+ fea.

I really liked Dead Space the first one so I decided to try Dead Space 2. If you liked the first one I think you will like the second one. In my opinion the second one is even harder than the first. Seems like there is fewer ammo to collect. A lot more surprises popping out of unexpected places. I would say the first one is better simply because the story in it is really great. However, this game is a close second. Plus it has a pretty fun multiplayer mode. One team of aliens and one team of human survivors. You can choose from different types of aliens and their different abilities. Playing as the humans you unlock more equipment as you level up. Very fun. I would definitely recommend it.

My adult son was very happy to receive this game. I don’t know the game myself, so I can’t comment on it.

I love the Dead Space series. This one isn’t as scary as the first Dead Space game, but it is just as awesome. Can’t wait for Dead Space 3 to come out to complete the saga!

  5. Michael Billings

so bloody and gory, along with it being disturbing made me want to play it all the time, i love it

  6. Peter A. Fairweather

    hours of enjoyment

  7. Pygmalion

I’ll be blunt, my biggest critiques of Dead Space 2 are the ones that I had with Dead Space leading me to believe the problem may be endemic with the whole series: lack of innovation with story and game mechanics. It’s still Resident Evil 4 in space and the development team has done nothing bring originality beyond adding more weapons (which unless the player makes a conscious choice to pick and invest heavily in they probably won’t be used, unless the player decides to have repeated playthroughs) and foes to cut up. I sincerely hope there is more originality in story and play styles in the next installment. However everything else, the voice work is excellent and the monsters and weapons are all still fun as hell to play around with (the ripper never gets old, ever and I admire the cojones for adding children enemies) and a real focus on item management keeps the game interesting and playable enough that I do not regret my purchase in the slightest.

I order this for my Grandson and he has had hours of fun with it. It was packaged well and shipped fast.

  9. Javier E. Salas Moreno

    Excelent game

  10. Jon Alexander

Played the first and second when they first were released. Picked it up rather cheaply and haven’t put of down since. Disk is in great condition and it came with a Manuel. Am very satisfied and it completed the my trilogy.
