An excellent port of the Playstation 2 classic. Everything you know and like from the original game is here, whether it’s the bizarre story, the dozens of character classes, the dark assembly, teacher-pupil relationships, reincarnation, or the item world. There is also the option to select things on the battlefield using the stylus, which is a neat touch (though I confess, I seldom made use of the feature myself). There are a couple of small concessions that Nippon Ichi made to the new format (presumably to save space on the cartridge). First, the samples used in the game’s music are of noticeably lower quality than in the original game, resulting in a tinny, almost MIDI-like sound to the music. It’s a little annoying, but not unbearable. Second, most of the voice-over work that used to accompany the game’s between-battle cut scenes has been stripped out. This is sad, because I *loved* the voice-overs in the original game–but if space considerations forced them to cut anything, I can understand why it would’ve been this. All in all, a 4/5. I’d love to see NIS release a remastered version with the full audio experience for 3DS or the Switch!

I love this game. I had it before and it was "accidently" picked up by someone and taken with them. This game is unusual, but fun. GIve it a try!

Disgaea has loads and loads of pop-culture references and loads of zany humor in it, if you know where to look. The gameplay is fun, and while the story isn’t what I’d call an epic adventure (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim….), it’s still a blast to play.

Disgaea, a little sleeper PS2 hit Turn-Based RPG game, finally came out for Nintendo DS.Since the storyline / game play are already covered by other reviewers, so I will go straight to the condensed version of why you should consider buying this game:* Gameplay Style Difference from PS2 / PSP Version:The most striking difference is the fact game takes advantage of the dual screen of Nintendo DS.During the battle, upper screen functions as a “minimap” — which is very useful in some of the bigger maps by letting you see how the map is laid out as whole. This is not available in other versions.Another bonus is, the function to move characters during the battle have become much easier by being able to directly tap the place with your DS Stylus instead of manually pointing there using your directional pad on your DS (this might take a while to get used to if you are new to the genre or to this type of a game).* What Else is Different?:Disgaea DS is largely a port from the PSP version of the same game. This means, the extra features seen from the PSP version (that are not in the original PS2 version) — including Etna Mode where Etna (one of the characters players control in the game) becomes the lead character instead of Laharl (lead character by default) — exists in this version as well. However, due to the lower capacity of DS, graphics details are lesser than what you would see on the PSP version, and voice acting is limited to English and not too many of them exist compared t.

My husband enjoyed it and that’s a vote worth having.

  6. Sara Dawn

I love the game. It’s my first game with this sort of playing style, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it takes far too long to level up characters. You have to beat the same level over and over again to be prepared for the next one, and that can get old. That aside, the story is good, I love the art, and I found the game very enjoyable.

The game play is set up on a grid, with you issuing orders to your party members with a panel on the right-hand side. It’s turn-based and linear, with multiple endings based on your choices and actions throughout the game. It’s not a lot of variation, but enough to warrant a second or third look. Leveling is a bit of a grind, though. If you want a big party of well-leveled members, you’re going to have to put some time into building each of them up.Where this game shines is the story, dialogue, and characters. It’s sad in some parts, serious in others, but mostly, it’s very funny. I’ve replayed this game time and time again for the different endings and party configurations. I think this DS version lacks some of the voice overs the PS version had, but I’m still happy with it.

Entertaining, well designed strategy RPG with tons of customization, hours of gameplay and funny dialogue.

This game is pretty witty and fun. The story is cheesy fun and there are lot of things to do. Warning though the game does get repetitive, As long as you limit yourself to about an hour a day though you wont burn out playing it and should have a wonderful time with this game.

This is a downgrade from the previous two versions I say the PSP one is the best by far I has the best graphics and voice acting but enough of that this review is for the Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness on the DS known as the Disgeae DS. Some new things added in this version first of all there is a Prinny Commentary which can be accessed as soon as you get an ending. Also there are some more special characters that can be enlisted like Plenair the mascot and some fun surprises. This game is still lots of fun I recommend it. So go build an army and rule the Nether World and a few other worlds too lol.
