Once I figured out what was going on and to ignore the touch screen, been the only game in my 3DS. Meditative and hard at the same time. Forces you to process a lot of info, but there is a real flow to the gameplay. Great game!
Dream Trigger was exactly what I expected it to be. It’s a fun, fast-paced title, but in the end it falls short of what it could have been. The backgrounds look great, and although the 3D doesn’t help much gameplay wise, it does makes the experience a bit more immersive. The controls will likely take a little getting used to, but I didn’t have too much trouble with them despite being a lefty. The game is moderately long but has quite a bit of replay value, the achievements helping out in that department. The music is pretty good, and I spent the majority of my time playing with headphones on. Dream Trigger is pretty good title, but my advice is not to spend too much money on it.
This is a fantastic, beautiful game! To thoroughly enjoy Dream Trigger do not use the stylus / touch screen control scheme. Instead drop your sonar pings using the 3DS Circle Pad. The old school arcade action, fluid game play, and cool music keep me coming back to this game for the past few months. Definitely worth the price!
I’ll admit, when I initially took a peak at this game, I thought it would be just your typical shooter—simply shooting anything that moves, and that’s it.However, the second I played the first stage, I realized I was totally wrong–this game is in fact beyond simple, and is rather challenging! You have to use your joystick, top screen, stylus and bottom screen—all simultaneously, and you gotta be quick, too!The concept of the game is fairly simple, once you get the hang of it. The top screen is where all the action takes place, obviously, and you use the bottom screen as a type of “sonar” to detect incoming enemies. The catch though is that on the top screen, your enemies are “invisible”, and to make them appear, you must use your stylus and place a sort of “node” on the sonar (bottom screen) so that the enemies can run into them–only THEN can they be revealed. After they are shown, you simply hold either the R or L buttons to shoot them out of existence!Again, you have to be quick; this game shows no mercy, and can get overwhelming at times, as your enemies move quite fast and spew out orange-like bullets at you!Other then that, the graphics are beautiful, the music is catchy, and the game itself is just overall addicting once you grab a hold of how it works! So, if you like a challenge, and you have a 3DS, then I strongly recommend you buy this game!
Played two 1 hour sessions so far and have completed 20 stages.Pros: Engaging – you are focused on shooting things and identifying enemies the whole time and it gets quite hectic.Cons: Gameplay can get repetitive. However, the more I play the more addicted I become. In the first 5 minutes of play I died within 60 seconds of starting a stage. But then I realized that when you hold down the fire button, you’re immune to bullets. This fact, together with the strategy of just swiping your right thumb across the touch screen in an almost random manner (to identify enemies) made the game feel similar to a button mashing fighting game – so far it has involved very little skill. You are mainly doing two things you do when you play this game: aiming your thumb on the bottom screen, and aiming/moving your ship/crosshair on the top screen; The bullets SO FAR are pretty harmless.I feel this is a good game to just pick up and have a short session with, better than monkey ball. And like monkey ball, it is kind of one dimensional but I guess that comes with the genre. If you are comfortable at multitasking in a videogame and have confidence in your videogame coordination, this game should be pretty easy, at least the first 20 stages. The visuals are pretty, but the 3D doesn’t add much to the game.
It’s okay
A lot of people don’t really care for this game a lot… I enjoy it myself. I’ve had it since release and still like to bring it out every now and then to play 2-3 levels. It’s very strange and hard to master the game (at least it is for me) but feels unique. I wouldn’t say the game is for everyone… It’s pretty hard until you can figure out how to play it right. But I still like it. I wouldn’t want to give the game a 3.5/5… But something around 7.5/10 seems ok to me.

crazy hard game! I love it! This game takes a lot of getting used to, and at the moment I just don’t have the patience… but hard game!
I can see why there are so many angry reviews and so much frustration; this game makes a lousy job at trying to explain how to play the game, and is even worse at trying to explain what is this game about. The game includes some tutorials, but those feel more like a legal contract than the instructions to play an arcade game; ‘the part of the first part, according to clause X.. whaaa?’ (not really, but it feels that way). In the tutorials they will talk about a rhythm bar blah blah blah.. while they are explaining that, you will find that the bar they are showing at that moment is something else; also, as some other reviewers have pointed out, there are easier ways to play this game than the one explained in the tutorial, but this way is never explained in tutorials and you have to figure it out on your own (or reading reviews, or watching Youtube videos). So what has this game to offer: is a nice experience about music and visuals; not quite ‘mesmerizing’, but pretty enough to justify it. In each stage you may take different appearances, and the visuals change, for example, but to reach those visuals, you have to play the game. This game is listed most of the times as a ‘shooter’, but you actually never shoot a single bullet, you actually destroy the baddies by ramming them. The game play is separated in two states: one is the navigation, other is the game itself. The navigation means to select stage and navigate through the map; pretty much the same as selecting the stage in a.
