Why just watch NFL football on TV when you can take an active role in the game with Madden NFL 08 by Electronic Arts? Madden NFL 08 lets you control the running game like never before. Step up as the lead blocker to create a hole, then take control of the tailback and smash through, overpower, or slash away from would-be tacklers as you fight for every yard. Feel what it’s like to be a field general making key personnel decisions on both sides of the ball during the game’s biggest moments in Madden NFL 08!

See…all it took for Madden to be decent this year was a little competition. This is what we SHOULD have gotten 2 years ago…I played one game and wanted to weigh my 2 cents in before all the fanboys went nuts. For one…. 1up.com gave this game a 9….please….that’s being too generous….the presentation alone showing signs of age killed that score.First impressions are pretty good with this version.I mean it’s Madden- Graphics are vastly improved for the players but they still need to work on the crowd….ok so it’s a small thing…but that is a small thing that 2K always seem to get right. Tackles are more realistic and the players move and react a little more without having to push too many buttons. Players tend to react and give you cues on when to push the buttons.- Weapons. wow….will take some getting used to but it’s nice to se that read and react finally working…- Animation does look a lot better but…..I will come back to that in a min.- A 1/2 time show!!!! While not as robust as 2K’s it’s still nice to be able to see some highlights from the first 1/2.- Franchise mode is finally HERE!!!!! I didn’t try the Superstar mode because if I did…I wouldn’t be writing this as of now…heheThings that could be improved upon….- GET RID OF THE FRIKKIN ESPN RADIO!! Come on…if I am playing this game in HD on TV…then what would it kill them to get a 2 man crew…and SINCE they have the ESPN Licence…just rip the page out of 2K5 and hook it up? What would it kill.

I usually stay at least two to three years behind on sports games. I’d rather get 2 to 3 games then pay $60 for a new sports game every year. The last Madden I bought was 2006 on PS2. I thought it was okay. I actually liked the QB vision and it was a challenging game. It was not better than NFL 2K5 for PS2, which I still pop in to play. I have All-Pro 2K8 for the 360 as well. The gameplay is awesome to me. I do not like the kicking game although I am getting better. I own Madden ’09 for the Wii and Madden 08 for the DS which are both cool. I read retrolio reviews and looked at Youtube vids. I decided to go with ’08 for the price and the features of the game. I am very happy with my choice to take this over 2009 thru 2011. I give Madden ’08 the nod over APF2K8. The menu and the different ways to choose plays help you to learn alot about your playbook. The kicking system is a whole lot better than APF2K8. The physics and play animation, and gameplay have gotten a lot better as well. This game compares well to the best Football game yet, NFL 2K5.

I’m an achievement hunter. I once played the Madden NFL 08 demo and it actually gave me a bunch of achievements (usually demos don’t do that). At any rate, this was $1.80 used so I figured, why not pick it up and complete the achievements?

    My son liked it!

    gift loved it

The production values, features, and graphics are always one step ahead of NCAA even though they’re both EA football games. It’s quite the game, I just gave the “fun” 4 stars because my heart is in college football.

    great

This iteration of Madden marks the first good, solid Madden game on the new consoles. The last two were just downright terrible, and thankfully the folks at EA seem to have heard the criticism. Either that or the return of 2K football (in the guise of the new All Pro football) had them worried. This game is good, though it is still not as good, deep or smooth as Madden games from the previous era (see 2004, 2005). The good news is that developers focused on playability instead of idiotic and useless gimmicks (passing cone anyone?).The GOOD: The graphics are quite good, and the animations are the best they’ve ever been- the players have weight to them, and move very realistically. The sound on the field is well done also. The franchise mode is deep (though has its flaws, see below) and the superstar mode is more playable than before. There are some cool features, such as a cleaner stats menu, and hall of fame content. That said, the biggest improvement is the game-play itself. For the first time in ages, I have been challenged by a Madden game. The running game feels right, and some of the superpowers have been turned down (looking at you, Mr. Vick). Overall, it’s a very satisfying football simulation. The BAD: The presentation is awful. The announcer is terrible; it’s not Madden, which could be both good or bad, but instead we get some high school announcer reject. The menus and the interface are not well designed, and are buggy and laggy. The game also lacks custo.
