This was one of the most unique NES games ever and it came from Konami, makers of the Contra and Castlevania series. While it was not unusual for developers to make games out of licensed properties like TV and movies, no one expected a game based on the mildly popular toy franchise back in the early ’90s. In 1992, they released Monster in My Pocket for the NES. It wasn’t as popular as other games but immediately had a cult following and was similar to Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers from Capcom. It was a fun game that anyone who played it had a ghoulish time with these monsters.You choose from two characters: the Vampire who throws arched energy waves from his hands and the Monster who punches enemies directly. Then, you got to make it through six stages each filled with monsters, traps and obstacles. Most of them were based on real world settings such as a house, construction site and a bamboo garden. The two main characters were battling against Warlock, who lead monsters to invade Earth. To beat the game, you had to defeat him so the monsters don’t show up. Earn enough points to get extra lives and the game offers three continues. Another player can join in to help you out.The PROS: It was such a fun game. Since your characters are small, the game made you feel as if you are running around, hitting enemies and avoiding obstacles. The graphics are good, the music keeps you in the mood and the sound effects are just what you expect them to be. The variety in the stages kept it fr.
