I think I’m the typical American male. I’ve owned a beautiful Fender Strat for over 15 years. I’ve got an amp to go with it. Sitting in an office, the set looks damned-impressive. Like too many typical American males, though, I can only remember about 3 riffs and one chord. If I only had three more chords, I could form a band!! My beautiful black guitar has collected dust for most of the 15 years I’ve owned it. Before Christmas, I started looking for new Xbox games to request as gifts. I stumbled upon the Rocksmith games. I read many of the reviews. Most of the reviews sound exactly like me–people who have always wanted to play guitar, but have never devoted the time necessary to actually play anything but a few select riffs. Riffs are cool, but they won’t get you through an entire song. I’ve always felt that if one is going to actually "play" a guitar, one ought to be able to at least play a song. Right?Anyway, the concept of Rocksmith appealed to me. After seeing kids play Guitar Hero or Rock Band, I always wondered what would happen if you could plug a real guitar into the game. Well, UBI Soft has done exactly that! So, on Christmas morning, I found Rocksmith 2011. Using some gift cards, I also purchased 2014. Instead of pressing color bars on a fake instrument, you have to press the correct fret and string on a real guitar! If I miss a note, helpful arrows nudge my finger in the right direction to find the correct note next time. Like Hero, you get to play along.

I’ve been wanting to learn to play for ages. I’m into my first week of the 60 day challenge and have come farther in 5 days then I have in months. It has great 101 tutorials which even show finger placement and practice games. The way it’s designed, you learn a little at a time. As you get better it fills in more notes to make it challenging. it’s a little tricky at first but you catch on easy as it will slow down so you can try it until you get it. Best investment I’ve made in a long time.BTW this works for Lefties as well.

This simply is the greatest software on my Xbox 360 PERIOD. I dont think there has ever been a game that has been so progressive, out of the box and even more than that astoundingly FUN. Now that I have all that gushing of the way, lets get down to what your really wondering, Will it teach me to play guitar? You bet your sweet backside it will. I have been playing for about 5 months and have gone from a nothing to someone who can actually start shredding. Now I may not be a Yngwie Malmsteen yet, but I am getting there and actually putting together some songs quite nicely. I play for about 1 hour a night 6 days a week and the results are just astounding. Its really just like having a guitar teacher in your home and ready to go whenever you want. Now sit back on that and contemplate what that means……You dont have to spend all that money on lessons! You got a teacher ready to go whenever your ready!!! There are even games you can play with your guitar and new songs being put out every week! If you are thinking about buying this and still holding back some reservations, forget about it, this game is virtually flawless!

I’ve had a guitar since I was 12 years old(just turned 25). Took various lessons from a lot of different teachers but none of it really stuck.I loved guitar hero and rockband when they first came out and wished for this game to exist. Finally bought my own copy after borrowing one from a friend a while back and seeing my progress since purchase is mind-blowing.I love the mini-games, and the play-along songs that slowly get harder. My only wish there was a mode where you could play all the songs on their highest difficulty slow, and have ths song slowly get faster as you nail parts. Riff repeater does this, but it only automatically levels you up in the difficulty of the notes and leaves the speed constant unless you change it manually.Small gripes aside. This game got me playing consistently for the first time in years, and I’m having fun while doing it. Love it.

If you ever wanted to learn to play guitar, but couldnt handle the slow pace of a teacher and learning songs you really dont want to play in the first place. This is the game/teaching tool for you.Now dont get me wrong, there are things a this cant teach you, but it will get you far past the basics and up and playing great music in no time. They also come out with new down loads (new songs) every week. So the library is always growing. Granted, you have to pay a little extra if a new song, or band comes out that you want.Ive been playing Rocksmith for about a month now, and I actually cant play any games on my xbox anymore because I feel guilty that Im not spending more time learning…lolThe game works with practically any electrical guitar. However there does seam to be an issue with acoustic electric guitars. So if thats all you have I highly recommend picking up a cheap electric guitar on craigslist.Ive always wanted to learn to play guitar. Im 40 now and in the past Ive bought videos on how to play, and I even had a few friends try to teach me over the years, and I just couldnt get over the bordem of strumming the same note over and over, or trying to learn a handful of chords (because just learning one chord at a time is boring also).Whats great about this game is it picks up on what you know. You may start out playing one or two notes over and over in a song you like, but after a couple of times the game will add more notes. If you cant keep up it removes a note.

This is a game changer. I started out with zero experience with guitar, and this game has surely changed that. Rather than spending hundreds on guitar lessons, I was able to learn the basics of guitar and more. After a few months I can play songs without the game! The cable that is included is great. It is a nice thickness and will stand up for quite some time. Or at lease until you are a rock star.It is very easy to get started with watered down versions of your favorite songs. The songs get harder at your own pace. The lessons are helpful and have you play small passages to learn concepts. The mini games are awesome for getting to know how to play is a very fun way.I can’t get over the value of what is basically a full time personal teacher, but for one small cost. If you want to learn to play guitar, buy this!

This well polished guitar tutorial gamifies learning the guitar. It’s fun, many of the songs are classics, such as "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks, and remembers your progress.Besides learning the included songs, it has a Session Mode that allows you to jam with a band than follows your style and tempo. There are also arcade games for practicing striking the correct strings, playing Chords, etc. The games are clever, visually appealing, and in some cases resemble an old 80s arcade game, while others have you exploring a 3D castle while shooting approaching zombies with your guitar. (This one has a bug in the XBox 360 version that sometimes doesn’t shoot the zombie right in front of you, even when playing the chord displayed on the screen. So wasn’t able to get past a certain level. But it’s still well-done and does teach you to be quick finding simple chords.)There is a lot to like about the XBox 360 version. It feels like a top-tier game, only using a real guitar. It does have some annoying things that could be improved.a) For instance, you need to take your hands off your guitar between tries/songs to try again. There should be string-based navigation – playing open strings to retry, go back, move up/down in the list, etc.c) You are required to tune your guitar before learning any song. The tuner is awesome looking and easy to use. However, it requires each string to produce a constant pitch for about 3 sec before it allows tuning of the next string. This makes it di.

Love this game and whoever created it. I was skeptical at first. Just thought it was a version of the other "guitar" game…no offense meant. However, this game actually teaches you to play and is very challenging, if you are a rookie like me. Never even held a guitar before this game. Lots of fun and addicting, whether you are just killing time or actually working on guitar skills!!!

I have been playing guitar for over 10 years, and I have to say that this game is suitable for players of all levels of experience – including no experience! If you are buying this game with the intent of learning guitar or improving your ability to play, you will not be disappointed. If you have never played guitar before, be warned: you will need an actual electric guitar (and maybe a strap and some picks). This game is very beginner-friendly, otherwise. If you just want to hammer away at techniques, there are arcade games based on several right and left hand motions you will actually use as a guitar player. If you want to learn to play a song, you can follow along with guitar-hero style tabs (though the tabs appear upsde-down at first) and practice with the "riff repeater" feature. If you want to practice improvising, there is a session mode with a backing track band that you can customize.Straight out of the box, I did have an issue with the voice recognition booting me out when I was tuning my guitar for the first time. Disconnect the kinect if this happens. You can’t turn off the voice commands until you pass the tutorial completely.Overall, a very different game than guitar hero. There are no points, only percentage complete relative to the full song. The song does not stop if you can’t play it. It automatically adjusts the difficulty based on your percent-notes-hit mid-song. I once came close to 100% complete and the game removed the tab to make me pla.

The game is great for warming you up to placing your fingers in the correct position and having fun while learning. The reason this is 4 instead of 5 stars is because the game often times does not recognize that you strum the correct string and fret, no matter how well you do it. In some lessons this is basically an impass if you do not score 100%, and it is very cumbersome to figure out how to either fast forward or simply quit the lesson without passing. Overall the idea of the game is great and it meets my goal of making learning how to play very fun. If kinks were worked out of the game it would be a 5 star review.
