Snowboarding on sherbet? Some of the tracks you’ll find in SSX: Snowboard Supercross have broken from the traditional cool-blue snow color in favor of tropical snow cones. But this game sports more than just some crazy colors–it also contains a funky soundtrack that enhances the game as you wind around and through icebergs and freeway systems. Your success moves you up the rankings until you can call yourself the best on the mountain. This version of SSX features new graphical effects and controller feedback designed to capture the speed of your races and the massive air of your tricks.

It takes persistence to win often enough to win on the tracks provided before you’ll start unlocking new tracks and boards. It’s all part of the game, the frustration of losing and the challenge of getting better to win rewards for doing good… this game is a good challenge, that’s for sure! But I don’t have the time or patience any more as an adult gamer to sit through that learning curve. I paid $50 for the game, and I should have the right to carve down any course I want, so I cheated and unlocked the courses… because all I want to do is carve up the courses and have fun for an hour now and then, not get frustrated trying to win … races just so I can be awarded every part of the game that I ALREADY PAID FOR. I mean, there’s 50 TRICKS for each character to try and do! That’s what I’m talking about! Hang times in the air of over 4 SECONDS!!!!And let me tell you, these are by far the coolest graphics I’ve seen on a home gaming system. Every course is absolutely amazing and I have a hard time putting down the controller to go to bed, cuz I want to run the course one more time, and find where that hidden double-diamond trail leads to. Some of these runs take SIX MINUTES in real time to get to the bottom!!I own 7 other games, and this is the one I always go back to.

I have owned every system and many games since Pong on Atari, yet I have never found a game as addictive as SSX. The graphics are incredible (except for a few off-course problems), the game play is incredible, the fun is non-stop. I have played with many of the characters; however, I truly found each unique and difficult to master. I am a Mac man now. The game will continue to entertain me for a long time. I have not even really played the other games I bought with the system.

SSX was the second PS2 title i bought (first being smugglers run), it was a toss up between this and Tekken Tag, and i am glad i chose this one.The game is just amazing, EA Sports has managed to capture the look, feel, and sound of real snowboarding. The graphics are great and the tracks are just HUGE! Very simple game to pick up and play, especially if you are familiar with Cool Boarders 1 or 2.It is pretty easy to open up the first 6 tracks, but it just gets more and more difficult. I know the first time i tried to race in the world circuit mode i almost sent my dual shock through my tv a few times, but once you start to build up your stats it gets a little easier. And once you start exploring the enormous tracks and find a few shortcuts you have a better chance at placing. The tracks just blow me away, there is so much to slide on and jump off of. And there are so many things going on in the background that just add to the realism of the game.Only drawbacks i have found so far with this game is that there is some minor slowdown on one of the tracks (fourth one if memory serves) and the soundtrack is weak. They should have went with a soundtrack of real songs like the THPS series has. The 2 PS2 games that i do own so far both lack alot in the soundtrack.First thing i thought after playing this game for the first time was if this game looks this good i cant wait to see what Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 looks like.Definitely pick up this game, you will be playing it through out the.

This was the first game I bought for my PS2 and I’ve had it for roughly 2 months now. The first night I got the game forced me to call in sick the day after cause I got not sleep. EXTREME gamage here. The game rips, graphics are sweet and the characters are hype. I actually caught myself mimicking the narrarator the other day. Game play is smooth. When you carve, the response is realistic. The tricks are crazy but it’s video game. Nuff respect to this game, those folks at EA Sports have mad skills……. This, without a doubt is the best PS2 game out right now with Madden 2001 close behind.

As if enough hasn’t been said about this PS2 Classic, I come in and start giving it props as well. The game is hands down amazing, but let me make this review simple by breaking it down. First off, there is the courses. There is a total of 8 courses if you count the unlockable un-tracked course and pipe dream course. That may seem like few courses, but each course is pretty long, some even up to 6 minutes, and the replay value is amazing due to the fact that each course has plenty of ramps and rails…and TONS of shortcuts. Then there’s the characters. Great characters like Moby, Zoe, and Mac are all completely orginal and funny in their own way. There is even four unlockable characters, and each character has tons of unlockable outfits and boards. The tricks are simple to pull off, the snow is crisp under your board, and the air you catch is simply amazing. Needless to say, the game is Perfect. It is the first game I got for my PS2…and to this day..I still own it! Buy it now, it’s completely worth it!

A perfect game. The only way we could land a PS2 was to get a "package", and SSX came as part of the bundle. Now, sports games are not really our thing, and I can’t imagine us going out of our way to get a snowboarding game. Holy cow would we have missed out. This game rocks right out of the chute. A lot of games take a while to get going, or it takes you a while to figure out what’s going on. This one’s a blast and a half when you still don’t know what the heck you’re doing, and it just keeps getting better and better. We haven’t unlocked a quarter of the tracks and riders yet, and it’s overwhelmingly huge already. You’ll get jazzed when you win, jazzed when you lose, and will blister your thumbs from playing it too. It doesn’t get any better than this.

This should be it.Of the four I own, (SSX,Tekken,Madden,Midnight Club) this one gets played more than the other three combined. It’s so much fun that my wife loves it too. People who come over to play with the PS2 keep coming back to this one over the others. If you’re waffling on which one to pick up for X-Mas…Stop. Click on "Add to cart" And settle back to wait for one of the best games I’ve had the pleasure to play in a LONG time.

  8. Rob Damm

This game has a very steep learning curve. The first track just drove me up a wall the first night I had this game. You really need to learn to successfully land tricks in order to do well in races. The innovative "adrenaline" feature requires you to jump and do tricks in order to earn boost power. This is a great element, beacause in other snowboarding games, tricks were not crucial to racing. Here, they are. Once you start to get the hang of it, the game starts to open up- more tracks, more characters, it always seems like there’s something worth trying to earn by playing "just one more game". The graphics are stunning, the animation is great. Shoving other riders into obstacles is fun beyond words… This is probably the best, most playable game for PS2 available now.

When the Playstation II came out, I bought 6 games for it: Madden 2001, Tekken Tag Tournemant, Ridge Racer V, Summoner, Time Splitters, and SSX. SSX is by far the the best. Actually I was fairly suprised how much fun it is. I usually hate snowboarding games and do not care for Tony Hawk much. Here is an indication of how addictive it is: I have to get up at 4:00 am so usually get tired around 8:00 pm. I was falling asleep at about 9:00pm the day the PS II arrived cycling through the other games when I finaly put in SSX. In a matter of minutes I was awake again and could not put it down again until the wee hours of the morning. My brother, who can be quoted as saying, "Don’t buy SSX, I hate games like that," was equally addicted.Ok. . .Why is it so good?1. The tracks are simply amazing. Think real life but better. I have never seen (and I am a hardcore gamer) better tracks. Huge, realistic, varied, beautiful and larger than life at the same time.2. The racing is exciting and fast yet easy to control. I think this would please hardcore racers yet be just as good for partys as Mario Kart 64 was. (except no 4 player=()3. The moves are fun. Think Tony Hawk while racing down cliffs at 60 mph.4. The characters have engaging personalities and add a lot to the game.5. Very fun 2 player action. It did not slow at all and I could still see where I was going when in split screen. There is a column of light that shows where the other player is when they are ah.
