Played it only once when I was a kid. My mom bought Sly 2 and it was the only one I had until I bought Sly 3 and this one. Both worked great in my ps2. And for the price I was shook. Thanks!

Hadn’t played this since it first came out when I was a kid and my neighbor had it. Was just a fun a play a decade later, a true staple of the Playstation line-up.

I bought this for my nephew a short time ago and he loves it. An excellent piece for his video game collection.

The Good: Colorful art style, solid controls and platforming, memorable characters, fun mini-games, gameplay makes you feel like a sneaky thiefThe Bad: A bit short, one hit and you’re dead, some frustrating spots, cheap deathsI am not sure why I passed this game up all these years, but I am sad that I did. Finally being able to play it, I realize just how well it stands up today. Sly Cooper and his gang are trying to retrieve the Thievius Raccoonus which is a book of secrets passed on from thief to thief in Sly’s family. The evil Clockwerk and several of his henchmen stole a page each, and it is up to you to get them back. The first thing you will notice about the game is how well it controls. The movement is buttery smooth with great platforming and gameplay mechanics. Sly can double jump, but his main mechanic is his cane. He can use it to swing around and attack, but there are also ways to sneak around like a thief that just feel really whimsical. When you see blue sparkles on ledges you can hold circle and sneak around them. When Sly moves around a sneaking sound plays instead of footsteps which is really neat. This also goes for poles and other areas to climb. Just jump near it and hold circle and Sly will cling on. This mechanic is very well done and makes platforming a lot of fun. Combat is pretty simple where you just whack away with your cane and all enemies die in one hit. This isn’t as easy as you think because you die in one hit too. There are traps and obstacles.

By original I mean different then any of the formulated videogame products that are out right. No, this isn’t a `Metal Gear’ rip off with cartoon characters. It isn’t Crash Bandicoot, or Spryo…. This game is addictive and rewarding. It’s almost like an interactive cartoon. Gameplay advances very well. However you might be able to beat this game in one sitting, if you consider one sitting 12-14 hours of nonstop game play. But you haven’t really mastered it. Beat a level and continue on, or gather all the clues (the number of which vary on every level) and learn a new move or technique. You can do this after beating the level. Completing the level and uncovering all the clues allows you to do a time trial of the sorts. Beat that level in the allotted time and unlock a special commentary, almost the same you would find on DVD films. Some of the time trials will have you cursing at the screen, but you comeback from it more determined to kick [butt]the second time around. The animation sequences that appear throughout the game don’t detract you at all. They’re beautifully drawn and entertaining, keeping you excited for what’s next. In game voiceovers advance the plot or describe a new move you just learn, but never deter the games flow. Sly’s voice seems a bit to whispery during voiceovers. The control is where it really shines. You can do almost the impossible by pushing one or two button combinations. Animations are seamlessly tide together. Just the way the game begins is.

There was nothing that I disliked about this game from the time I turned it on. This is the game that got me hook to Sly. I had them for the first PlayStation and when I got the PS2 I went out and got them for that system also. Great game, Just love, love, love it I still to this day paly them. I also purchase the last game that came out last year.

This game is perfect. I am not fond of the platform genre that this game belongs to but I have played my share of platform games and this game does platforming to the best quality platforming can be done. For those of you not in the know platforming is basically games where you jump on level and land on enemies. Like Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine. I played both those games but I say this game beats them all when it comes to the controls of platforming. Jumping from one rope to another never felt so good. Mario frustrated me when i kept on missing where i was jumping. I gave up on both marios like I gave up on Croc and all other platformers. This game I did not give up on, I just had to return it to blockbuster. Now for the bad parts. May be too kiddy for some, but never bothered me any. I actually expected sly to be more masculine but he turned out my childish. But, again, didn’t bother me. Also the world is somewhat constraned. Ok, its very condtrand. You have a set path, you go that away or backwards. There are areas where u can roam around like mario 64 and then go to warps to your next mission. The missions are the ones that are the liniar straight forward follow the path mission. They all usually involve getting a golden key to trigger something in the mission area room that will advance the story like going into a boss fight or going into another mission area. Now, the boss fights. Theres a dancing boss fight, I love this boss fight. You have to follow the beats ala DDR b.

Sly Cooper is Sony’s new action/adventure game…it incorporates modern 3D graphics, but uses cel-shaded overlays and simple gameplay to give it that classic platformer feel. You play as Sly Cooper, a racoon whose goal is to retrieve his family’s stolen book of theiving techniques. You’ll make your way through the game collecting it back piece by piece and gaining new skills while doing so. The in-game graphics are clean and refined, and carry over the cartoon-like atmosphere found in the cinematic cut-scenes well. Even though the whole game is rather easy to beat, the experience from beginning to end is a grand one. Sly’s only drawback is that there is some slowdown present in the later levels. It never really interferes with the gameplay, but it can get annoying at times. I also would have liked to see this game to be just a little longer. By the time you collect all of the skills, the game is just about over (I estimate it will take the average player about 7-10 hours to beat). Overlooking those small flaws however, Sly Cooper is an excellent choice for PS2 owners looking for another great platformer to add to their collection.

I remember being only 5 yrs old (a year after this came out), and my dad brought this home for me. Just to let you know when I was 5 I was playing games like CoD and Halo so I was pretty advanced. So I naturally for a good 4 minutes overlooked this game, but then my little 5 yr girl mind kicked in. Then the adorable raccoon on the cover just stole my heart (no pun intended). I had to play it, it needed to be played. So I had my dad put it in, and I was soon engulfed in the fun gameplay of this. Now 10 yrs later I have all the games for the PS2 and PS3, and I have to say I love THIS game. It was one of the most original of its time. Graphics are beautiful for a PS2, using all of what the PS2 has to offer it pulls through. But don’t be fooled by the cartoon look of this game. It’s for all ages from 5 – however old you are. This game was actually pretty advanced for its own time, but when new game systems come out so do more advanced graphics. But fortunately this doesn’t stop this PlayStation classic, the story of this game makes up for the cartoony look of this game. Also the gameplay is fun, plus how Sly hits on Inspector Fox it makes it just ten times more fun. So if you are planning to overlook this game because you think it’s for kids, think again this game is fun for anyone.
