Graphics were okay, although people expecting the 2600 to reproduce the vector graphics of the arcade version will be disappointed big time. Sound effects are good with the “heartbeat” background sound and the sound of your ship firing and blowing up asteroids. Control is great. My main gripe is the game is so easy you can just sit in one spot and just rotate around and fire and rack up big points. Otherwise, it’s a good game and should be part of any Atari 2600 library.

An old game, pretty static play, but the system it was created for is over forty years old. Basic shooter, repetitious, but not a bad thing to have for a classic game library.

Can’t have an ATARI collection without Asteroids!

Around the time of space shooters like Galaxian and Space Invaders, Asteroids managed to stick out from them by utilizing one awesome gameplay twist: Controlling a multidirectional spaceship. That said, Asteroids is terrific. Shooting things has never been any more thrilling (at the time) thanks to the fabulous control over your ship. You can move anywhere you please, but it’s not as simple as that; you gotta pull the brakes if you want to stop the ship. And your ship actually has to TURN to go the direction you want it to.Fortunately, that all made for a deeper experience, yet the overall game manages to be addicting as heck.
