I’ve been reading the Cormac novels, one after the other, without stopping for other reading. Taken on their own, I could see that they might appear as mere trifles, scifi adventures. But pushing on directly in sequence, I find them as something more akin to an old fashioned Dumas or Hugo epic. And–as the series has progressed–the issues that Asher addresses have become more apparent, the issues around which all good fiction ultimately revolves: what it means to be human, the temptations and costs of progress, and the struggle to find love and meaning in the never ending flow of events. The prose may not be as polished as that by Alastair Reynolds, nor as hyperkinetic as Ken Macleod, but is in its own way damn good.

Asher keeps you on the edge of your seat again. Lots of story lines and strong characters. I would recommend this to any “hard” science fiction buff.

Don’t want to spoil the ending, but I very much enjoyed the plot twists. I was not disappointed. Great ending to the series. Asher has some great characters in this series and my favorites show up for the finale. The only negative I can think of is that I do not find the writer’s style an easy read. It is sometimes difficult to follow the various plot lines, but worth the effort.

Love the Cormac series

Seriously! Can’t miss it. Way cool destruction and drama. Will Cormic survive? Cool!

I couldn’t wait for this to be published in the US, so I ordered it from an retrolio shop in the UK.This is a great book that continues to explore a number of themes that recur in Asher’s Polity novels. In Polity Agent, we finally understand the connection between the Maker (from Gridlinked), Jain technology, the Dragon spheres, and the rogue AI’s.Along the way, we explore the history of Horace Blegg and learn who and what he really is.Ian Cormac doesn’t play as big a part in this novel. We first meet up with him as he recovers from the injuries he sustained at the end of Brassman. He also gains a girlfriend, although that subplot is rather thin.If you are familiar with Asher’s earlier books, you’ll be happy to see a Gabbleduck making a brief appearance. Even Mr. Crane has a cameo. As well, if you’ve read any of Asher’s Spatterjay novels and enjoyed the cantankerous war drone Sniper, you’ll enjoy Cormac’s new sidekick – a spider-like drone left over from the Prador war who is bored and looking for action. One thing I enjoy about Asher’s books is that he is meticulous about continuity. The timelines of each of the characters is consistent from book to book. My only suggestion is to read the books in order: Gridlinked, Line of Polity, Brassman and Polity Agent.

If you’re an asher/polity universe fan this is great. Continues the story of the Jain tech invasion. One of my friends read part of it and said “I don’t like cyber punk” His loss.

A good read. Definitely kept me turning pages. Instead of an unbeatable enemy, as we have seen in so many stories, we have an almost sentient technology. Only problem, is, it’s a weapon. One that destroys the one who thinks he controls it. And that is only one thread in this story.

Asher at his best

A strong follow up from Brass Man. We get to learn more about the mysterious Horace Blegg and the inner workings of the Polity. Its an intriguing world, with politics and economics controlled by AIs. Almost like Plato’s ideal state, except instead of a triad of detached rulers we have a multiply of AIs who, when push comes to show does not rule based on cold logic alone. This is a fantastic book and, oh the action scenes! Grand space battles with masers and tasers whizzing through space and gory close up combats. Ian Cormac and NEJ (a space ship) doing some pretty amazing stuff on all levels. I cant wait to see where this will end. I mean it, I cant wait! I need the next book now, now!
