I had a great time playing this. It copies Arkham City’s open world as opposed to Arkham Origin where you spend most of the game in-doors and only go out to get from building-to-building. Arkham Origins was made a different developer than Arkham Asylum and Arkham City but it is still a great game.

I have all three Arkham games(all on Xbox), and I honestly believe they’ve gotten better with every installment. A lot of reviewers complained that this was just more of the same. I sort-of agree, but that’s not a bad thing. Overall, I felt gameplay was subtly improved over Arkham City with little touches like the Shock Gloves going a long way to alleviate my annoyances with the previous installment’s combat. Like when you’re in a fight with a bunch of shield bearers and you end up spending more time taking shields and knives away than actually fighting. Yes, I’m referring to that open area in the old subway station in City. You know, the one filled with heavy’s and shield bearers…A big complaint that a lot of people had was the way gliding get’s broken by the city’s seemingly haphazard design. And initially I agreed. I changed my tune after only a few hours of play though. Once you’ve got a good general idea of the city, it actually becomes pretty trivial to find glide paths from just about anywhere to just about anywhere and the more random layout of the city makes gliding feel more natural and less like a cheap gameplay mechanic. In fact, I found that I almost never used the fast travel except when I wanted to head back to the Batcave. The Riddler missions are essentially the same, but I found that the way they were presented in Origins gave a greater sense of urgency and made them a more compelling diversion from the main missions. TBH, I had a hard time caring at all ab.

So I have played every Arkham game except Arkham Knight. After playing Origins, I can say that it should easily be included as an essential to the series. Gameplay is standard, same stuff here, except the boss battles which were pretty good considering, but nothing groundbreaking as I wouldn’t expect it to be considering it’s an origins story set before the events of Asylum and City.Speaking of story, this is the highlight of the game – arguably the best out of the two last gen offerings. The formula – Batman is a target, a bounty on his head gathers Gotham’s villains, rogue assassins, common thugs and even members of the Gotham Police Department to toss their hat in at taking him down and earn the money. Here’s the catch, in this game most of Gotham only knows Batman as a myth, a legend, a scary story they tell their kids before bed, a monster in the night – some don’t even acknowledge that he exists. In essence, this is a different Batman – cold, cruel, unapologetic, frightening, borderline merciless, still haunted and fueled with anger by the tragedy of his youth. This is not Batman: the prison manager – this is Batman: the pissed vigilante! All of that to say Origin’s story is fresh in it’s own right and definitely an experience that adds to who Batman becomes in the other games. It seems that all glitches mentioned by other reviewers early on have been fixed – at least I didn’t experience any.All in all, Arkham Origins is a worthy title and definitely a must play.

  5. Erik B

One of my favorite Batman games.

  6. Robin D. Harnden

    Grandson loves it!

  7. Renato F. Lopez

it’s a great game, not up to the level of the other two games but still have the great detective options and u being batman is always awesome. So I give it a B plus.

I thought this was the best of the arkham games. Although this should have been called orgins. I know warner put arkham in the title for a selling point, it wasn’t needed or required. Arkham prison wasn’t even built yet. I will alway call this Batman Orgins, arkham belongs nowhere in the title.

    This was a gift

  10. J.J. Rambo

First off I’m a die hard Batman fan and I absolutely loved arkham asylum and city. So for me Origins had quite a lot to live up to. At first I really wasn’t that impressed. I encountered numerous glitches (a few game ending ones) and a lack of overall polish but still kept on playing. As it turns out the writing, cut scenes, and everything else that goes along with it is fantastic.. with a few glitches (which were corrected with updates ) and the want of a longer single player campaign being my only complaints Batman Arkham Origins is a must buy for any fan of the arkham series it Batman in general.
