Bejeweled is probably one of the most addictive casual games of all time. It definitely sits up there with Tetris, Dr. Mario, Solitaire and Zuma. The new trend in casual games has seen a whole mountain of bejeweled clones but now Popcap has decided to just put a spin (no pun intended) on their own game.Bejeweled Twist is fun… but it’s no Bejeweled. The twist idea is a bit like some of the Rubic’s cube spin offs in my day, they were fun… but they just couldn’t capture the challenge and excitement of a Rubic’s cube.Instead of swapping gems that sit adjacent to each other you twist a set of 4 gems hoping that one of the gems in your group matches up with a gem outside of the group. At first it’s a bit of guess work but it becomes second nature quickly. The problem is that it makes it much more difficult to plan out big combos and set up chains. You’ll be grinning with pride a lot less during this game and overall it just feels a bit more like a chore after a while.Like Bejeweled 2, Twist has better graphics, a new creepier voice (whats with that anyway?) and some advanced combo gems. It features a few different game modes as well like Zen, Challenge and Blitz (similar but not as polished as the face book game) but they still don’t seem to help the game out much. The Blitz mode in twist seems to have been the catalyst behind the idea for Bejeweled Blitz (which is the best bejeweled game out of the bunch in my opinion). It almost feels like Popcap doesn’t quite grasp the concept.

I specially like the the new twist. I makes the game interesting. It keeps me on my toes.

I have played Bejeweled on and off for almost 10 years now–first on a computer, later on various iPods. I always enjoyed the game because it was a mindless escape–lining up those little jewels has an amazing way of making time stop and the world go away. Bejeweled Twist has the same, marvelous time wasting effect, but the “twist” of the game’s title makes the game a bit more challenging. Bejeweled Twist also has a number of challenges that emerge as you get to higher levels of the game. These challenges get annoying after a while–you spend more time clearing them than lining up jewels–but they do add further variation to the game. The game has classic and timed modes, and a special mode that you can unlock after completing a set number of levels of the game.I would recommend this game to people who have enjoyed other versions of the Bejeweled game. There are no annoying adds like the online version, and its something different, making it worth the game’s price.

I got this game for my nephew to play when he was over. I’m not a big believer in video games, but sometimes I just need a break and if I have to let my darling alone on my computer for an hour or so till I catch my breath, well it won’t harm him. Not at least if the game is fun and not one of those that is all about shooting, killing and car stealing.Do I know how to play the game? No. Will I learn? Probably not. But my grandson picked it up straightaway. I can see that the graphics are eye-catching and stunning and the game holds his interest and nobody dies, there is no blood spilling out of bodies, no police chasing computer car jackers. This is a fun and safe game your young children can play, one they enjoy playing. Five stars from me all the way.
