Blue Dragon represents a strong foray into the world of Japanese style RPGs for the XBox 360, and on that front, it was a complete success. It’s straightforward in virtually every aspect, offering little new, but doing most everything well. The graphics are great throughout, and stunning at times. It’s a lush and varied world, and the style, although criticized as childish by some, is well executed. Vivid colors and a variety of settings make travel throughout the world a pleasure.Music is also a highpoint. The score is catchy, fitting, and engaging. My only criticism there is I would like to have seen a few more songs for battles. There are basically two battle themes — regular and boss — that are repeated throughout. The storyline is a cliche one — stop the overpowered ancient seeking to destroy the world — but if you go in expecting that, it’s well done again. The negative, of course, is that any fan has probably heard this story one or two (or twenty) times.Gameplay tries to LOOK innovative, but in reality is quite straightforward and follows the path set forth by many games before. The “shadow” system is really just a tried-and-true class system. But there are no glaring flaws, and it remains pretty fun to play throughout. The real negatives in my mind… The game is a bit on the easy side. None of the (non optional) bosses leave you scratching your head to defeat them. The regular fight, heal, magic formula works on everyone. And the battle sequences get a.

OK, I am not an anime fan. Not even a little. I tried Blue Dragon simply because I was jonesing for an RPG, and this was about all there was after Oblivion for the 360.Well, much to my suprise, I ended-up thoroughly engrossed in the darn thing.Since I have limited time, I’ll do a short and sweet Pro/Con summary:PROS:Absolutely stellar graphics. It really seems like you are playing a Pixar movie at times. Colorful and inventive, Blue Dragon is a pleasure to look-at, and lets face it, that matters.Very simple and intuitive interface. Almost everything you need to access for your inventory, stats, spells, etc are logically located in one, succinct menu, with the map in another. Very quick and easy. Makes you wonder why after 10+ years the otherwise excellent Resident Evil series can’t figure this out.The storyline is predictable silly, even juvenile, but it’s done with enough charm and originality to more-or-less make up for it. Somehow, I still wanted to see what would happen next, and I am one cynical sod ;)Tons of content. Lets face it, 60 bucks is a lot of dough, and I would usually shy away from buying a plotted game. Normally I rent them, as the replay value, at least for me is low. But this thing is so darn huge, that it will keep you playing for a month probably. At least as long as Oblivion from what I can tell.Technically, the game seems nearly flawless. I have experienced no graphic gitches or frame-rate slowdowns at all.Soundtrack. The score and incedental music is e.

I love this game. Very interesting and entertaining storyline. Hard in spots but not so hard you can’t play and move forward. I am still playing this game and enjoying every minute.

I picked this game up because it was on sale on retrolio for about $8 and I was not expecting much but surprisingly it’s a really great game. I am even more surprised I never heard of it. Basically this game has good gameplay, good controls, a unique system for your shadow characters and is fun and enjoyable. This game has great graphics and while some parts can be a little boring all in all it was hard for me to put down. This game is definately worth buying and playing. The only “downside” I can really think of is like some RPG’s the characters are a little bit silly but unless you are one of those players that needs your RPG to be absolutely serious then it shouldn’t be a problem and this is coming from someone who put over 1,000 hours into Oblivion.

At first I really didn’t like this game. It was very childish and very repetitive. It was also really simple gameplay too. But, after awhile, I started to like it…maybe towards the beginning of disc 3. I guess it got to me after the one million battle and hours of hearing that battle music. The story was okay.(I just finished watching the anime of Blue Dragon the whole series. The anime has a pretty good story, but I actually preferred the video game story, so I will change my mind from okay game story to great story!)I thought the fight battles was very bad in terms of the game difficulty. It was just too simple and too many. After I beat the game, I played hard mode, which I felt was much closer to what normal mode should had been like. Many people talked about how easy the game was and I believe what the game makers should had done was made “hard mode”, the “REAL normal mode”. Also, I thought “Impossible Mode” was really tough, and super rewarding once I beat it.Most of the boss battle are very easy and they don’t really require much strategy. On the other hand, if you fight the optional bosses, those required strategies and preparation to beat. And NO, going in the battles to fight with level 99 characters without any strategies wouldn’t win the fights. You actually have to plan and think about what you need to do.Furthermore, I love fighting the 5 dragons, King Boo, and Gold Mecha. It took awhile to figured out a way to beat them without dying over and over again…esp.
