Other reviews give a comprehensive overview of the pros and cons for the game, so I’ll just say what really made this game stand out for me.The beautiful artwork was what drew me in. The art style and darker colours really set the mood to give this game the perfect Castlevania atmosphere. But it was the balance between skill and leveling that kept me playing. Since the game is challenging, you can really improve how you play over time by learning enemy patterns, and wisely choosing weapons. This is perfectly complemented by the system of collecting new spells. The game eases you in by giving you regular swords and axes at the beginning, but it feels that much more rewarding when you can continuously blast giant fireballs at the end. Castlevania is able to nicely blend the fun factor of a skill based action game, with the addictive nature of rpg style leveling and spell collecting to present a thoroughly enjoyable game from start to finish.

Fans of Castlevania as well as adventure games can’t go wrong with this. While this wasn’t as innovative as Soma’s adventures, it’s still an entertaining game and worth checking out.

  3. Igor D.

4 stars for the game itself. Not THAT much of a Castlevania title, but still a good game.

Konami took even more risks with this than they did with the previous DS Castlevania (Portrait of Ruin). This game is at it’s core much the same as any other recent 2D Castlevania title, and if you enjoyed them you will surely enjoy this game, but it makes enough changes that it might throw you for a few loops if you arent prepared.First off, the new protagonist Shanoa, is indeed a female lead who is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. She breaks many series conventions, such as requiring MP for ANY type of attack due to her Glyph combat system, and thus being helpless when her MP is depleted. In this game MP regenerates at an astounding rate, but the MP regen is halted during and briefly after attacking, requiring you to attack in short bursts. Safe and easy weapons like projectiles are generally less damage to MP efficient than melee weapons are, such tradeoffs can be found throughout the combat system. Additionally, Shanoa is able to transform into a few select enemies (such as a cat with the Glyph Arma Felis) which alters the control scheme and opens up interesting strategic possibilities. She’s also the first Castlevania protagonist in a long time to never unlock a “super jump” type move late in the game, but gains access to actual wing-based flight instead, as well as some other creative magnetism movement abilities and walking through walls. Even her world is different, with an actual world map and numerous one-shot type short platforming levels to traverse. Many t.

This is an enjoyable game. Really like this one!!!On level three now fighting the monsters!!! Really exciting!!!At level three you can save your progress.

  8. Jon

2D Classic Clastlevania at it’s finest!

  9. Van Rogers

Short but sweet Castlevania which deviates slightly from its Metroidvania style and goes for more of a compact yet enjoyable experience. Prefect for portable Castlevania.

This game was absolutely spectacular. Being a Castlevania fan myself, I loved it, in fact, I think it’d be safe to say that this Castlevania game is one of the best CV games out there. Shanoa is actually a very interesting Protagonist with a pretty fun and interesting style of fighting. The story is well thought out and is portrayed quite well. This game even offers a lot of replay value(pretty much like all the rest of the CV games after Symphony of the Night). New game +, extra unlockable character, etc. Also, if you have Castlevania Judgement on the Wii, you’ll be able to unlock a great accessory piece, hard mode and I think the ability to level up to like level 200 or something like that. It was a great game with a great soundtrack and a great storyline with awesome gameplay. Pretty much the main recipe every game needs to be a truly great game. I definitely recommend buying this one.
