Loved this game back in the day, still love it now. Looks good on the PSP, great purchase recommend it.

Hoo boy…Where to start? How about a trip down memory lane? The year is 1987, and four years ago, two events tremendously and irrevocably changed the course of the video games industry. The first was the release of Nintendo’s Famicom console in Japan, the beginning of the video gaming industry as we know it today. The second event was the near-total collapse of the North American video game sector, which, in the grand American tradition of bursting bubbles, was entirely its own fault. With American game companies fleeing the toxic money sinkhole they helped create, the geographical axis of the video game world moved deep within Japanese territory. The Famicom presented Japanese software outfits with the double opportunity of a fertile market and a level playing field. The first wave of third-party games were ports of arcade and MSX titles, while the first games developed exclusively for the Famicom started arriving towards the middle of 1986. Very few of these initial efforts were very noteworthy (or even that good), but for a few exceptions. Among these is the iconoclastic Dragon Quest, the third ever Famicom game created by longtime MSX developer Enix.At the same time, a small game developer and publisher called SquareSoft is floundering. After publishing a string of unsuccessful NES games, the company drifted ever closer to bankruptcy. The company’s Director of Planning and Development, a college dropout named Hironobu Sakaguchi, began to work on a new game: a Dragon Quest.

My son loves playing this game with his friends. He would definitely recommend this game to other gamers along with Final Fantasy II.

It’s Final Fantasy…what more really needs to be said? I love it and my 7 year old loves it. Close to the original with some tweaks added in.

I tried to play final fantasy a few years back when I received Final Fantasy Origins as a gift. I was unable to complete the game back then due to some glitchiness on my PS2.Out of boredom, I decided that since all 11 offline Final Fantasy games are currently available in some form in the US, that I would try and play them all! And I start with Final Fantasy on the PSP:The redone graphics on the psp version are nice. Everything is brighter and more colorful than they were in Final Fantasy Origins. The gameplay was fun, leveling up your party, putting together a party of four made up of 6 potential classes (for me: monk, warrior, black mage, white mage), and playing your way through dungeons, overworld, and towns. I spent a lot of time just exploring, seeing what there was to discover. The only real downside to this game is the lack of story and character development. As someone who sort of stumbled onto the Final Fantasy franchise later on (FFVII), the lack of interaction between the party members made for a general lack of a feeling of “ownership” of the group and their quest. And, aside from the very beginning of the game, and the very end of the game, the story wasn’t all that gripping. It was mostly the exploration that kept me going through to the end.I also found the general lack of clear direction to be a bit distracting at times. there were a couple points where I had to do some research to actually find out what I was supposed to be doing, and where I was supp.

    Great game

  8. ArdenKeeling

Yes, this is a remake of Final Fantasy (download the original on the Wii’s Virtual Console and you’ll understand). But regardless, Final Fantasy for the Playstation Portable is a good remake to the one that started the franchise. The graphics, polished and glossed to perfect. The sound and music, beautiful to listen to. The gameplay, the true RPG feel when you hold this game in the palm of your hands.

Would recommend this game to anyone who loves final fantasy

This may be the last remake that Final Fantasy 1 gets. It is also the sharpest and biggest remake it’s ever gotten. Just compare some screenshots and the difference is obvious. If you’ve never played this game before then you might feel a little lost in this one due to the bonus dungeons and bosses. Not a bad thing, but it definitely help knowing what has been added and what was original intended to be apart of the main quest. I don’t want to spoil any surprises, just know that there are plenty and only players that are willing to max out their experience and keep playing afterwards will see everything. That might be the only downside too, the fact that you can only get so strong. Not such a big deal in the original, but with all the added enemies and areas in this game, you will be challenged even if you’ve maxed out. A must have for fans of the series!
