Pass on this waste of money

Played less than 5 minutes and can already say this is a winner. Steampunk alien shooter that plays like Valkyria Chronicles. Cool looking monsters and great 3D effects, also c-stick/circlepad compatible!

  3. londmouth

    waiting is the hard part.

I’ve finished this game and really enjoyed it! At first I was skeptical because it wasn’t enough like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem, and I thought the characters were a little silly. But after a few missions I was won over by the strategy and even came to enjoy the fun characters, story, and setting. Fighting aliens under the command of Abraham Lincoln made me smile. And the challenge of playing a turn-based strategy game without a bird’s-eye view, but rather from the perspective of your troops, is great.

    I like the game.

Decent game. CPU turns can still take a little too long.

A strategy game made by Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, and Warioware) that looks like it should be a bad game straight out of the 80s. Luckily, under the right conditions it’s fun.The game is a turn-based 3rd person shooter/strategy. You aim and fire manually for your characters, which is much easier if you have a *new* 3ds with the second thumbstick or a circle pad pro. If not, you use the touchscreen or (try to) use the a/b/x/y buttons to move the camera. Once your turn is over, the enemy has their turn. It takes awhile and you are restricted to what your characters can see (no map) so it can feel like you’re just waiting. There is an update available that speeds it up and it makes the game flow a bit better. It’s a challenging game, much like it’s cousin Fire Emblem, sometimes you’re one bad call away from losing. Mentioning F.E.: if you’re lucky enough to own the Marth, Ike, Robin, or Lucina amiibos they unlock that character in the game.I think it’s worth saying that the characters and story are absurd and there will probably never be another game story like this again. President Lincoln runs an organization consisting of famous literary characters who use steam-punk technology to fight an invasion of Cthulhu aliens (all of which is depicted in a comic-book art style). The story won’t win any awards, but it frames the action perfectly. The game has flaws but if you like strategy games Codename STEAM is a steal at it’s current price of $16.

Ok I’m glad I got this game it’s so much fun and the amiibo compatibility, I got a Lucina amiibo and she looks great in that game. The story is fun, likeable characters and great gameplay. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Fire Emblem Awakening and Advance Wars Days of Ruin.

While I’m not a fan of Fire Emblem, I really enjoyed this game. The colorful cast of characters is great, and I really like the re-imagining of them. While I’ve heard people not liking the fact of a lack of a map, I think the lack of a map works brilliantly, especially since you’re playing from the point of view of the characters, and really, they don’t have the ability to view the entire battlefield at will. While the lack of a fast-forward option at first was a tad bothersome, since the new update, that’s a problem that’s been fixed. As far as the story and story elements go, I love it. The story is a little crazy, sure, but combining major elements of H.P. Lovecraft, The Wizard of Oz, steam punk, and other well known story characters? A crazy story is going to ensue. But, it’s fun nonetheless. If you’re looking for a good game that requires tactical strategy, and you also happen to be a lover of classic novels and short stories, pick this up. You’ll love it.
