  1. AaronKunde

Very well written and researched with many interesting photographs. Details who shot down who and in what numbers as wartime claims were always wildly exaggerated. Also proves that the Luftwaffe still (despite the odds being against them) almost succeeded and Britain could have been invaded…

  2. MR R.

A brilliantly written acount , given from the German perspective. It has filled so many gaps in my understanding of that period and answered many more .An absolute must for any reader/researcher of the Battle of Britain.

  3. sharron thompson

Nothing new……….but from a different perspective. Adds interest to a tired 80 year old subject.

  4. CJ BARROWS

I have many, many books on the subject since my interest began back in 1969 as a callow youth and it is now hard to find any publication that can add a new or vaguely interesting and accurate insight given the thousands of words that have been written since 1940. However this book is the real exception and an absolute must for all those with more than a casual interest.I only received the book today but already I’m half way through such is its refreshing and objective assessment of the subject that appraises the conflict from both sides. OK you may disagree with some of the points made but that’s the whole point of the book I suspect, to make you challenge some of the hitherto accepted norms. Other authors have attempted to do this but with little factual insight, balance or technical expertise, such as Mr Holland, so this is a real gem and well worth the price. Plus it also contains a number of period photos that I have never seen before which just adds to its fresh and unique feel.I cannot recommend this book highly enough as it is definitely a real asset to my library of the conflict. It has already provided me with many answers plus inevitably a few more questions as well, such is the enduring nature of history and this pivotal period which defined and shaped our destiny.

  5. Terry Sofian

This book offers a very good look at decisions from the German point of view. I gave it a 4 because of what is missing. There are daily lose totals in the text but no tables. It doesn’t give any information on replacement pilots or aircraft for either side let alone a comparison. That information would have been very important for a comparison of the flow of the campaign. I’d love to have seen a table of total sorties by each side by type. Finally, a discussion of operational rates by both sides would have been valuable as well.Otherwise a very interesting look at the politics of the campaign from the German side.

  6. Rafael Soza

Thought provoking insight into the famous Battle of Britain campaign from the German point of view. This title uses both primary and secondary sources that effectively places the Battle in the proper perspective of Germany’s overall war effort. The book is easy to read, informative and makes good use of illustrations and photographs from the period.

Who is thoroughly enjoying the read

  8. Terence hammond

There are many books about The Battle of Britain, some good, some not so good and some that you might say were all right but wouldn’t warrant a second reading. Over a period of more than 50 years I must have read more than 40 books on the subject and the quality notwithstanding, the one thing they all had in common is that they were written from the point of view of the defenders i.e. the British. In this book the authors go through the looking glass and approach the battle from the German point of view. Most accounts of the battle will highlight the German errors of bombing airfields that were not fighter stations, ignoring radar stations, keeping the fighters too close to the bombers and switching their attacks to London. Here the authors show that these were not random decisions. Apart from the switch to London, all these actions were in accord with the strategic aims. The Germans wanted to make sure that attacks on their invasion force were minimised. That made Coastal and Bomber Command airfields a legitimate target. And their experience in France had shown that a fighter could operate from any airfield. Although some damage was done to radar stations, the Luftwaffe High Command took the view that to destroy Fighter Command they had to lure them to battle; all the better that radar told them where to go. Bomber losses forced a change of tactics. This was more than just tying the fighters to the bombers. Also included were fighter sweeps and an increase in fighter-bomber.

  9. RICK BISHOP

Unlike previous literary works on the subject, this brilliantly written and epic rendering details the Luftwaffe’s all-out attempt to crush RAF Fighter Command during the two most decisive months of the Battle of Britain from the German perspective. The authors have successfully placed the reader behind the Luftwaffe’s strategic and tactical decisions employed in their quest to establish air-superiority for their planned cross-Channel invasion. This deeply researched work is of the highest quality containing original photos, illustrations, charts, and graphs on almost every page in support of their script and belongs in every library of those interested in the historical defense of England during this most critical time of World War II!

  10. Hall

Having purchased and reviewed its contents it is at last good to see from this particular Author who’s credentials are good. Although not British the author is American, and has served a distinguished career in USAF reaching the rank of colonel, and is a former fighter pilot This book offers a refreshing view not one from the British side but that of the Germans and has been well written Anyone instrested in studying the Battle of Britain should aquire this book and both primary and secondary sources for the book are very well researched, enabling to produce a book of academic and reference standard. As the Historian for The Battle of Britain Historical Society I highly recommend this book to be a be in a personal library. Also after some 20 years it’s good to a perspective from the enemy, such has failed to be covered by the likes of Stephen Bunghay, and James Holland
