Danganronpa: Another Episode is a dark game that deals with heavy subjects, it brings up extremely heavy subjects, but it doesn’t justify those subjects or excuse them. I’m not saying the other Danganronpa games weren’t dark, because let’s face it, beneath all of that humor and those adorable faces (cough, Aoi Asahina, cough), this game series is pretty heavy.I love the combat system in play–it’s your basic puzzle-shooter, but with a unique "gun", and unique puzzles. Naturally, like the rest of the Danganronpa games, it’s very story-driven, and it’s very dialogue-heavy, which I adore. There’s a lot of character development for one character in particular, and we get a lot of backstory for her–things that were hinted at in the first game, but it was never revealed. We see a bit more and hear from the family members of other characters, and we learn about their interactions through these characters–it’s so… Wonderful. While the first Danganronpa game remains my absolute favorite, this one is most certainly second favorite–especially since Touko Fukawa, Taichi Fujisaki, and Yuta Asahina are all present characters.

Ever since I played Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc & Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, I was in love. The puzzle aspect, the mysteries in the story, the characters…. everything. I knew I had to play Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls as soon as it came out. Unfortunately, it got put on the back burner as life got in the way but I finally picked it up. From reviews I read before purchasing, I knew that this game would not be like the others and would have a new style to it.The story of Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls fits in the universe and takes place in between the first two games. There are great cameos from beloved characters from the original series. This game is more of an action/shooter game which may disappoint some that were looking for the interactive novel filled with puzzles and mystery from the first two but will still be loved by fans of the series.Admittedly, life got in the way again and I’m only half way through the game. Once I finish, I’ll come back and update my review.

I played the Danganronpa previous two games on PSP years ago. They are absolutely masterpieces as detective games. However, if they would make the third game still like those, maybe I wouldn’t play it because I have already seen so much detective gameplay and I don’t think they would have more innovations. But this another episode is totally what I did not expect and I found myself addicted to danganronpa just like the last two games. The shooter game present the end of the world very well. I can truly sense the despair. The shooting is smooth. The play is original because they use very special concept in your bullet and guns and weapon. These concepts fit the whole story very well. However, there are too many loading screen in the game. My screen became black so often. This makes me a little bit uncomfortable. This is the only con I found in this game.

This game just game out, but I wanted to give it a preliminary review to encourage other adults to pick it up! Yes, adults. The subject matter tackled in this game goes beyond just violence and murder. It goes into some heavy topics not for children.Danganronpa Another Episode is not another visual novel murder mystery like the first two games. Will playing this before the first one spoil you? Yes. Absolutely. It’s a continuation of the story, that takes place in between 1 and 2. There is also a tiny spoiler for the second game, in revealing a bad character.Kormaru Naegi is the little sister of the first game’s protagonist Makoto. This game starts with her trapped in a two bedroom apartment that she is locked in after being kidnapped by unknown assailants a year and a half ago. The animation and voice over as Kormaru tells her story draw you right into the story, and it’s very well done. 5 stars right there, instant immersion. You’re already invested in what happens next. That’s when a Monokuma robot comes to shred down her door, and she runs into the Future Foundation led by one of the last game’s survivors. He hands her an electrical megaphone gun type device and tells her to run. She leaves the apartment building to find chaos, mayhem, and murder. The Monobots are killing everyone, and they’re led by an insane band of children out to eradicate all adults. Her gun is eventually stolen and downgraded by a guest appearance form a sinister character from game #2, and she must.
