This game is awesome. Well produced and published for the Nintendo 3DS. Gives you everything you love about Dead or Alive in a compact, portable size just perfect for on the go battles and challenges. Well worth purchase.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this game quite as much as I have been. This game comes with a decent diversity of game modes. Unlike other games in the series, this entry is clearly geared toward welcoming new players into the fold. To that effect, a surprisingly lengthy ‘campaign’ mode introduces you both to the stories from previous games as well as to the controls, giving you advice on various moves and strategies. The ‘story’ in this is nigh-incomprehensible at points, but what is important is how it allows new players to become acquainted with the DOA universe. The gameplay itself is, as always with DOA, fantastic. Eschewing the combo-heavy action of games like Street Fighter, DOA: Dimensions is more tactical and might be likened to a complex game of rock, paper, scissors. You can, of course, get through quite a number of fights without any kind of discernible strategy, just punching and kicking stupidly, but you’ll get creamed if you attempt this in some of the game’s harder modes and difficulties. There are various modes on display, such as tag battles, survival battles, and more classic arcade-style assortments of enemies. This title also sports a fluid and workable (if somewhat restricting) online battle system. I suppose I should mention the showcase mode as well, which allows you to take 3D photos of figurines of the various fighters that you win through completing challenges, but most people won’t spend much time on this aspect of the game.Control-wise, I am fairly imp.

So, I play a LOT of 2D Fighters, but only a few 3-D Fighters with the only ones I would call “Great” and still play a lot being Soul Calibur II and Tekken III. I get frustrated by the insanely difficult inputs and frame specific timing of the latest Street Fighters and the like, but still enjoy the games. I bought DoA Dimensions on the advice of some friends and I love it, but here’s why:DoA Dimensions is a 3D Fighter that could be viewed as a “best of” collection of all previous DoA Fighters. It has the largest playable roster of any game in the series and a great Chronicle Mode which is simultaneously a DoA 1-4 Story Mode as well as a detailed Tutorial for basic and advanced gameplay concepts. I had no trouble learning the game and mastering its intricacies. The combat is incredibly fast paced and driven by reflexes and predicting your opponents actions; This is driven more so by the pronounced Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanic between Strikes, Holds, and Throws and the fact that properly timed counters become Hi-Counters which deal extreme damage and reward players for accurate prediction and good reflexes. Fighting your friends in DoA isn’t about who has the most muscle trained fingers and memorized the hardest combos, it’s about actual mind games and real reflexes. It’s the one Fighter I’ve played where you will actually lose if you repeat your most damaging combos, unlike Marvel vs Capcom 3. This is because the risk of a devastating Hi-Counter Hold breaking your comb.

DoA for 3DS for the first time (and probably last). if you can get past the fan-service then it’s a good fighting game, does have some neat features like taking snapshots of your figurines.

  5. Kimberly

It has a nice “story mode” but the graphics really sucks. other features are ok. Be patient; it would be fun if you keep playing and investigating.
