This game is FUN. That’s all I can say about it. The actual gameplay is similar in principle to games such as Tactics Ogre or Final Fantasy Tactics, but ramped up to levels that are simply absurd (and speaking of levels? I hope you enjoy building them, because you will be grinding your freakin’ brains out, especially if you want to do the bonus content. There is a reason that your characters can be leveled up to roughly 1,000 times higher than the average RPG hero.), to the point where it’s not rare to see the battlefield split by giant mushroom clouds or planet-smashing meteors a dozen times each battle. Heck, that’s a conservative estimate. But where it really shines is the story. The narrative switches seamlessly between utterly goofy, truly inspirational, and genuinely heartrending, and all of it truly seems to fit. One minute a character can be bidding a tearful good bye to a long-lost loved one and finally beginning to live again after years of hiding his feelings from the world… then in the next minute, the Netherworld is being invaded by a parody of Flash Gordon. And somehow, it all works. Don’t ask me how, I haven’t a clue. But it’s funny, it’s touching, it’s exciting, and most of all it is FUN.Oh, and the Prinnies are just awesome, dood.

I never finished the playstation version. This gives me another chance. It’s pretty much the same game, the graphics tweaked to fit the smaller screen.

Having played Final Fantasy Tactics A2 on the DS for 70 hours and clearing all content available i felt rather depressed that there was nothing to do end-game. Months past and i needed another strategic-rpg. After some plundering I came across the Disgaea series. It appealed to me instantly, cute fleshed out characters simple easy to follow story and most important awesome gameplay. This game boasts over a hundred hours of content and its not joking there is a lot to do, whether its training character levels, going trough the item-world system to power up your gear or playing trough the charming campaign again for that certain ending. It aims to satisfy and does so well and the only thing i can compare it to is the Final Fantasy Tactics series, don’t get me wrong i love FFT but this adds that replayablity factor that just want present in them. With a plethora of different endings a ton of unlockable playable characters and just cool things thrown here and there you will be glued to your DS for quite some time. WORTH 20$ easily.NOTICE: Few cool features I want to point outItem world – go into your items and go trough randomly generated floors of enemies to power up weaponsGeopanels – almost like a puzzle feature thrown in to regular combat can make you think when your after those end stage bonus itmesMax level – its 9999 nuff saidPrinny comentary – make sure to pay attention to the top screen during story segments the demon-penguins (prinnies) they add even more humor to the m.

Pros:-Very satisfying-Replay value is off the charts!-Second screen quite useful-New unlockable characters fun AND useful-Still contains Etna side-story-Optional Prinny Commentary is a nice touch for both first-timers and veterans-Multiplayer with two copiesCons:-Slightly watered down graphics-Touch screen controls good, but not great-Amount of voice acting majorly reducedOverall, if you even remotely like RPG’s and own a DS, prepare to fall in love.

My experience with strategy RPGs began with Final Fantasy Tactics, and I was happy with it. Then I move onto the Advanced Wars series, again, I was happy with it.I’d heard about the Disgaea series on some gaming websites and dismissed it as a super hardcore anime-inspired game that eschewed fun in favor of punishing difficulty. But then I took a chance on Disgaea DS after seeing some reviews. I thought that the worst that could happen would be that I was out $5 and at least I would learn to steer away from the series….well, what happened was that 2 days later I plunked down the extra $25 to buy the game and have since sunk at least 30 hours into the game.I even sold my copies of Final Fantasy Tactics A2 and Advanced Wars Days of Ruin, because I knew that I would only be playing one SRPG series from now on.Disgaea DS is, quite simply, the best strategy game I have ever played. The options it gives you on the battlefield are immense. You can rush your enemies with straight brute force and power through the game, or you can sit back, build up your combo meter and gather up some really awesome items. The Item World portion of the game is absolutely genius. Although optional, it is almost like a full-fledged puzzle game set inside Disgaea’s world. Sure, you can play the Item World portions just like the regular battles, but stringing together multi-hundred hit combos with Geo Squares is where the real fun is, and how you snatch up the best items in the game. It also tacks on a nea.

Despite the title is about me whining, it does not take the experience from the game. I bought Disgaea on a whim for the DS because I’m more of a handheld player than a console player instead of the PS2 version (and I don’t like the PSP so that is thrown out the window despite being the best one to buy this game on). This game is what started it all. Lovable characters, a good plot and the start and demand of Laharl and co going back into every game after this one to become the main character and for good reasons. Laharl is a great protagonist that is easy to sympathize with despite starting out as an anti-villain at worse. This game gets you into the word of Disgaea and how the universe is supposed to work.Alas, the few things that made me mad was the removal of the voice acting. Instead the DS version gives you Etna Mode after completing the main game. Otherwise, this game is notorious for being slow and the item world being impossible to complete at some points because of how they set up the map from being unable to hit a far away enemy or not being able to jump high enough to get to another area.I would recommend the other two systems and not the DS but the game is a huge yes.

Again, when my granddaughter opened this for Christmas, she was very excited and happy to receive it, although I haven’t a clue what it is all about.
