  4. Bradley Shapiro

The game functions properly, and the game is a ton of fun! As a game that was released in 1994, the level design holds up very well, and the mechanics are splendid! As a result, everything works as it should!

  5. Benjamin O.

I never played much of the Mario vs Donkey Kong series, and saw this on the Nintendo eShop on my 3DS and thought, “eh, looks like a port to the original arcarde game, only in black and white, which is lame.” Like many others, I was so wrong! I read more into it and figured I’d shell out four bucks for the download. Best four bucks I have ever spent! You start out with the original four levels arcade, the last one included which was left out in the NES version. Other than the improved appearances of the characters and backgrounds of the original game, only in black and white (or if you’re using the Super GameBoy peripheral for the SNES, color with the arcade cabinet and slightly improved sounds). At the end of the fourth level, you defeat Donkey Kong and save your girlfriend, Pauline. You can choose to turn off your GameBoy or exit the game on your 3DS… or you can let it play out as Donkey Kong rises back up, smashing the ground, making you, Mario (aka Jumpman), and Pauline fall. Poor Pauline falls into the arms of that donkey of an ape and chases off with your girlfriend (Mario’s secret girlfriend… Don’t tell Peach!)! You have to chase after him in 9 more worlds, resulting in 97 more puzzle-platforming.I have yet to beat this game, but I’m having a blast while doing so. If you have to go with one version of Donkey Kong, get this one. It has elements from the original Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. (who also makes an appearance), and, of all things, Super Mario Bros. 2. Ther.

In the early 1980’s, the arcade coin-op was the most popular brand of entertainment to grace all video game fanatics. The world was introduced to Mario the mustached hero, and his longtime archrival, Donkey Kong. Even I admit to having drained my weekly allowance of quarters just to get those couple of moments of pure joy whenever I used to hit the arcades back then! I even used to play Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. using the sit-down "cocktail" arcade cabinets! :)As the Game Boy continued to gain much popularity in the 1990’s, the Donkey Kong franchise was reborn! Around the same time that the Super Game Boy adapter was released in North America, Donkey Kong ’94 was one of the first games to have an exhaustive graphical makeover, adding several layers of color and even the ability to play all of your Game Boy titles on television!Once again, that evil, sinister DK has kidnapped poor Pauline, and it’s up to Mario to rescue her! First, he will be re-introduced to the 4 levels that everyone used to play in the arcades; it looks even MORE awesome on the Game Boy! But just when you think that you’ve rescued Pauline — oh no! — DK grabs her and kidnaps her once more! Now Mario will have to chase DK through 10 different worlds in order to finally stop him! Even Donkey Kong Jr., his offspring, will slow Mario down from time to time!Throughout each level is a key. It is Mario’s job to grab it and unlock the doors so that he can proceed to the next levels and so o.
