Basically, if you liked Doom 3 then you will love Resurrection of Evil. If you didn’t care for Doom 3, then you will most likely not like this at all either. I loved Doom 3, so I was highly anticipating this expansion. This is even better than Doom 3 was. There is more variety, a quicker pace throughout, more action, and the length is perfect. I’m glad that this is shorter than Doom 3, because sometimes Doom 3 seemed to drag on a little bit too much towards the middle part of the game. The graphics are still absolutely beautiful and the new monsters and weapons are a welcome addition. The new grabber gun seems to be a copy of Half-Life 2’s gravity gun but its still fun to use and the artifact(which replaced the soul cube) is a blast to use during puzzles or tough parts like hard enemies, bosses, etc. My favorite new addition however, is the double barrel shotgun which brings back good memories of Doom 2. Overall, if your craving more Doom 3 action then definitely don’t hesitate to buy this.

I just finished the Single Player game. Those who liked Doom 3 will like this one too, those who didn’t, won’t. It’s really more of the same, which was what I was looking for. I’d say it’s about two-thirds as long as D3, which ain’t too bad for an addon. You’ll find the familiar array of weapons but with the addition of the double-barrel shotgun, the grabber gun, and the “artifact”. There’s no soul cube. For those wondering about the “artifact”, it gathers souls of dead human scientist to charge and when activated it puts you into “hell time” slowing the baddies down (like in every other FPS made in the past five years). It powers up when you kill bosses, adding extra damage and invincibility to the hell time ability. The gravity gun–oops, I mean “grabber” gun doesn’t make a huge difference in the game like it did in Half-Life 2. At least I didn’t have much use for it–your mileage may vary. A huge drawback is that it can hold items for just a few seconds. That’s hardly enough time for the smoke of the fireball (or whatever) you just caught to clear away so you can aim it back. I found this very frustrating–nothing like the saw blade chucking fun of H-L2.I heard a lot of early rumors that they were making this game more well lit than Doom 3 (which got a lot of flack for being too dark). Don’t beleive it. Resurrection of Evil will have you toggling between flash light and weapon as much as D3 did (still no duct tape there in the future). It’s only more well lit in t.

Yes it pretty much did meet my expectations: it was BETTER than any of the 1000s of fan-created mods for Doom 3 that I have played, but it was not better than the original Doom 3 game itself (storyline or gameplay). I was happy to finally play a little more DOOM (3), but now I can see why it was never ported to the mac (although I did end up creating a Wine wrapper for it and playing it on my mac after all)

If you enjoyed the original Doom 3, this one will be right up your alley! There’s a little more variety in terms of backdrop when compared to the original (a little time in the caverns, some in the space station, and some in hell), and this really creates a greater sense of progression. The newer demons are a bit more threatening and come at you in greater numbers (often in waves and pairs), but fewer annoying demons like the spider-type. The demon with the TV teeth is horrifying in sound and inflicts major damage, but turned the horror factor a bit in the opposite direction. On that point, there are also fewer video disks and audio files on the PDAs you collect in the game. This is a small matter, but it just seemed less effort was put into making the expansion as horrifying as the original. “It’s all in the details.” The addition, the double-barrel shotgun was a really welcome change, but the gravity gun (a.k.a. grabber) was an interesting new weapon because it can be used to kill most enemies, helps to conserve ammo, and if used correctly, can serve as the dominant weapon in your cache of weapons. I felt that this gives the player somewhat of an unfair advantage, because you don’t have to work nearly as hard to strafe and avoid projectile assaults. The best aspect of the game is the feeling that you’re finishing what you started with the original Doom 3. While you don’t play as the exact same marine, at least you finally track Betrugar down and take him/it to tas.

This game is a real eye opener it keeps your interest and may even give you the creeps. Give it a try, you’ll need the Doom-3 version for the expansion to play. Enjoy !!

The addition of the “grabber” anti-gravity tool/weapon and the double barrel shotgun changed the way I play the game. For enemies that launch plasma fireballs at you, they can now be defeated without firing a single weapon at them; you just catch their fireball and shoot it back at them – as you dodge their continual firing at you. It makes it possible to stockpile your ammo for the times when you need it.I also like the way the “artifact” evolves to change it’s effects as you beat certain bosses. The bosses are difficult to defeat – even when you know what you have to do, which takes a bit to figure out sometimes, which makes for good gameplay.Hours of gameplay from an expansion pack with some interesting twists at the end.

Straight away, you are back into Doom 3’s claustrophobic, yet stifling `walk in this direction’ gameplay. However, this game, albeit a really short game, seems to be more enjoyable than the sobering Doom 3. Firstly, the monsters are better placed – and, seem rather timid at the thought of running aimlessly in front of your weaponry (for example, the zombie soldiers hide more, especially behind crates, etc). But the very, very best thing about Resurrection of Evil is the double-barrelled shotgun. The weapons in Doom 3 – even the powerful ones such as the chain-gun – always felt weak and ineffective. They lacked a certain kick. In fact, if it weren’t for the crosswire turning red, you would hardly believe you were hitting anything most of the time. The double barrel shotgun is a long time coming. If it was in the first game, Doom 3 would have fewer detractors. However, ID left it for the Resurrection of Evil – maybe as a selling point to boost sales. The graphics are the same (i.e. amazingly detailed), if not slightly better, than Doom 3. Surprisingly, Resurrection of Evil, runs a lot smoother on my PC than Doom3 did, so maybe this game is more old PC friendly than the notoriously hogging Doom 3.Those who felt Doom 3 was a disappointment may not find enough in this game to re-evaluate your opinion. However, if you loved Doom 3, and want a bit extra, then Resurrection of Evil is a good buy.

Okay, first things first: The best two gaming engines out there at the moment are Doom and Havoc, without a doubt! Hell, I wouldn’t put Half-Life 2 in the same league – firstly the game is for little girls and secondly the engine (if you can call it that *laughs*) is basically a rip-off of the Quake II/III source code anyway which id Software are fighting back on… now Resurrection of Evil…The expansion pack takes the scares and the atmosphere of the original and ups-it bigtime! The story is simple – but this is Doom 3 and all I want to do is kick satan’s red butt – right?? Goodies: You get the Super Shotgun from Doom II, the Grappler isn’t actually the same as the Half-Life 2 Grappler because firstly it is known as the Ionized Plasma Levitator and second you can throw enemies fire and plasma attacks back at them – so it is really cool – a major saving grace! The Artifact replaces the soul cube and gives you three powers, I won’t spoil it entirely but one of the powers being Hell-Time. This means you can slow time down to get through various doors before they shut and get the big meanies before they get you – also a major saving grace. The improvements made to this expansion pack really make up for some of the niggly problems with Doom 3 such as when you picked up an item and a baddie would pop-out, they’ve got rid of that problem. The Expansion is pretty short, half the length of Doom 3 but the enemies are much more interesting and varied now. Sadly no chainsaw – but the.

The Perfect Expansion Pack for a Brilliant Game. Nerve Software has developed a branch new path of where the first game setting leaves of. You are at a new place at the dig site and hell breaks loose again. Using some new weapons and strategy elements you need to stop the hordes of hell and also get out of there alive. 5 starts guaranteed.

I liked Doom3, maybe a little too dark, but my eyes adjusted. This expansion pack wasn’t much of an expansion, way too short even for $20! Living in the boondocks and all it probably took me longer to drive to the store buy it, get home and install it than it took for me to beat it, that just blows in my book. I didn’t mind the fact that it was pretty much the exact same game because I really did like D3. I find it entertaining running around and mindlessly blowing $hit up. The one part that really saved D3 ROE was the fact that they made up for ID’s slip – no double-barreled shotgun! What the hell, it was a great step up in Doom 2 and that crappy version they made for N64, I thought it was a guarantee that we would have been able to use it for the newest addition to the Doom family, but no. I mean come on, it’s become a staple in ID’s games since Doom 2, why the change? Maybe I’m flippin’ out too much about a fake shotgun, but I’m sometimes like an autistic child, I’m very easily amused and upset (I’m going to hell for that one). Bottom line if you are willing to pay $20 for another 5 hours of Doom 3 go for it, otherwise the changes aren’t that significant where you won’t be able to live your life if you miss it. On a side note, if anyone knows where I can get a mod to use the double-barreled shotgun for D3 e-mail me or post it here. ([email protected]) No complaint e-mails about my autistic crack, thanks.
