My family and I were getting bored with the same old games we’ve had for years. This was new and a lot of fun! It kept them entertained the whole time, and also sharpened their math skills. It’s really well done, and engaging once you get the hang of it. I would say its definitely a game for kids older than like 10 or so because it can be a little complex. I did have trouble trying to figure out the set up and instructions, so it helped a lot to watch some YouTube tutorials on how to set up the board and play. Overall was a good buy, and we plan on buying more from the same company.

My son bought it on sale last Christmas time. He’s on his thirties and I in my sixties and we love it. Because some of the cards can be left out when you play a game your strategy has to always changes. Very clever game. At first it might seem simple but because of the randomness of rolling dice and drawing cards combined with your strategy choices you have a fresh set of circumstances with each new game. You can play a short game I. Under ten minutes or use more cards and out to half an hour.

My severely ADHD 8 you daughter loves this games. She rarely sits for a game that lasts longer than 20 minutes but she can play this game for an hour! Once you get the hang of it, it is really fun..players must use strategy to get asany points as possible, which means thinking ahead in order to win. The cards are nicely illustrated and entertaining.

This is a fantastic family game. All 4 of my kids age 6-14 enjoy playing it. We got several new video games for Christmas but this is what they ask to play every morning.

Fun mashup of rummy with light role-playing game mechanics. Most importantly, I was looking for a game that was more complex than Chutes and Ladders but not too difficult in the reading or strategy department so that my youngest could play, too. It’s a quick game, 30 minutes if you’re new to it, 15-20min if you’ve memorized the rules, so my 9- and 5-year-old children don’t get bored because the adults take too long thinking about what to play next. The 5-year-old needs an assist once in a while but he understands most of the game enough to play with the rest of the family. Highly recommended.

Read lots of reviews before buying this and agree with the positive reviews. This is perfect for 9-10 year olds. We watched a Youtube video to see how to set it up because I just learn better that way than reading the instructions but I think the instructions are sufficient for most adults. I was a little confused from reading only the instructions which deck I was supposed to be removing 12 cards from to begin with but I got it when I watched the Youtube video. (There are lots out there from which to pick btw.)My 10 year old could not figure out how to play it by reading the instructions herself so kids probably will need an adult to explain it and play it a few times before leaving them to play with other kids their age.Well thought-out game. After playing it twice, I started pointing out to my daughter about probability and risks/chance and she started catching onto this concept little by little so I do think this game is accurate in stating that it teaches probability. We have never played the previous game that others referred to in other reviews so I can’t attest to the game that was prior to this one for younger players.Yes, this game is totally fun with just 2 people! Sometimes games say 2-4 players and then just aren’t as fun with 2, but this one is just as fun with 2 as it would be with 3-4 players. Younger siblings (ages 6-7) could play along with assistance from an adult also, and I think, still have fun with it.My only suggestion for improvement is tweaking.

This a fantastic early elementary level math/probability/push your luck game. The premise is simple: Choose a monster card you want to capture. You can theb play one to six cards of the same number, in a run, or in a flush. You then roll dice equal to the number of cards played. You then total the Dice and compare it to the monster card. Equal to or higher wins you the card. It’s simple enough for my six year old to play (with help from me) against my wife, and it clearly is teaching her the basics theories of probability and early ideas of "push your luck" versus "play it safe strategies." Once she has another year of school down, she should have no problem playing it on her own against us. Oh, and my wife wanted to play it with me once the kids were in bed as a nice light distraction game! A huge A++ for quality math based mechanics, with another + thrown in for cute art.

Our kids (6 and 9) LOVE this game and the adults do too. When reading the directions, I thought it would be tricky for the 6 year old to pick up (heaps of little nuances) but she jumped in no problem. It is fun, interesting, and relies on both luck (drawing and dealt cards) and strategy (choosing when to roll and when to draw). We also love Sleeping Queens but were ready to graduate to something a little more challenging and Dragonwood is the perfect next step. I think our family has 25 or so Gamewright games and Dragonwood is our new favorite!

We play this non stop (at least 5 times a week) and still hasn’t gotten boring. We love introducing guests to the game. It was a present for our 6 year old and he does just fine with the numbers. I think some of the strategy may pass him by a bit but he’s catching up. Don’t be hesitant to buy for a slightly younger child as a stretch, they can surprise you. Great for making kids think of strategy from multiple angles and for getting them to learn to add quickly in their heads. Also, I’ve played it myself quite a few times (kids love repeats) and still haven’t gotten sick of it. Awesome game!

I loved the artwork and the fantasy element. The game is simple and easy to learn. The six-year old boy and ten-year old girl played together at first. One game was his limit, although he said it was “really a fun game.” Later the 10 year old and grandma played one game. I wish the cards were more durable, they seem flimsy.
