I loved the old PS 1 & 2 games and have alot of them. It is why I bought this PS2. Unfortunately, the composit connections do not work with those on newer tv’s. I got a converter so I could connect via HDMI, but other than the system startup (without a disk inserted) it would not work. With a game disk inserted the initial Playstation logo would come up, but after that a black screen with my tv telling me no source connection. The same was true if you turned it on with a game disk inserted. This was true for both PS1 and 2 games. If you have an older tv with the proper red/white/yellow connections then you are good to go. I regret I am forced to return it since it is unuseable for me. I gave it five stars because it was a brand new unit and I have no doubt it would have performed perfectly. Had I been able to connect the analog PS2 to my digital tv and have it work properly I would keep it. So very disappointed, but its not the PS2s fault in any way.

This is a Playstation 2, arguably the greatest console built so far. With the removal of backwards compatibility from Playstation 3, those who want to experience the diverse catalog of PS2 games will need to buy this system. Best to buy it soon as they’re no longer being manufactured and prices will sky rocket.Addendum Feb 23, 2013: With the official announcement of the Playstation 4, reliable backwards compatibility may be a thing of the past. While Sony promises PS2 games via a streaming service for the PS4, those who want to play it safe have even more reason to get a classic PS2.

I’ve had this PS2 for several months now, and it’s been working just fine. I play it a lot too. Instead of buying a new one, just by 3 or 4 of these used from this shop for the same price! Or more reasonably just buy 1, but if you bought multiple, you could throw some epic gaming parties, maybe some madden tournaments. But it’s still a PS2, so it’s pretty outdated. Still, many great games for the PS2 out there. Hell, I still play some NES games from the mid 80s from time to time.

backround – i have been gaming since the early 90s with the genesis i own over 25 systems and over 2,000 gamesMY REVIEWafter the demise of sega i was devastated.. i bought my dreamcast during launch and had every sega system. i reluctantly bought a Ps2 fat late 2000after i unboxed it i was skeptical “‘could this be better than sega?” i doubted it. i picked up smugglers run 1 ready 2 rumble 2 NHL 2001 and timesplitersafter hating ready 2 rumble 2 and somewhat enjoying smuglers run i popped in timespliters it was a pretty solid game. i didnt pick it up again until 2001 or so.that year i picked up a lot of games. i picked up ico jack and daxter the precursor legacy red faction and i think smugglers run 2. i quickly relized that this system was no dreamcast but was pretty darn close. for 4 years i picked up a average of 15 games a year spending my college money like no tomorrow. by 2008 i had around 400 titles. i quickly grew to like sony. at this moment ps2 games and systems are dirt cheap. i accidentally sold my fat ps2 in 2007 and bought a slim. (i also did the same to my slim) the slim is well designed and smaller than a paperback book. it is quiet and very sturdy feeling. i bought one 3 months ago to relive the ps2 and i still have all my games… the system uses memory cards which also are cheap. i would strongly recommend parents buy there kids a ps2 as a first consolethe reasons being – its affordable timmys going to want the new and shiny systems.

One thing that not a lot of people talk about with the PS2 is it’s controller, mostly because not a lot has to be said. Sony’s upgrade used a controller that was very familiar to it’s loyal customers, adding only a couple new features. Meanwhile, both Sega and Microsoft released consoles who’s control pads were panned. People said Sega’s shouldn’t even have been released yet, and Microsoft’s controller was just too big (a friend once described it as being “like a cereal bowl without the fun”).All around, I love the PS2. Graphics are good and the games released are generally a lot of fun. While Microsoft’s rig was decent, it’s development was a big half-assed in comparison. Not knocking xbox or it’s fans, I was just rather disappointed by their OS and some of their hardware choices. What really amazes me about the PS2 now is that it’s held up. It’s still relevant after all the next gen consoles have come out.

Some of the best kids games came out for the playstation 2, and since the playstation 3 is not backwards compatible, we had to try to get another one of these when ours finally started acting up (after an obscene amount of use over the years). I was so thrilled to find a brand new one of these on retrolio. It came in 2 days brand new in the box and I got a warranty. So cool.

I’ve never played a video game or owned anything of the sort, but brought this because I got hooked in DDR at a friend’s place. And since DDR is the only game I play, I want a cheap good quality thing. FIRST TIME OWNERS: you will need to buy memory card along with this (and no, they are not the tiny mem card you use in cameras etc).I was worried because PS2 seems to be out of date now with all other video game consoles, and there was the durability issue of PS2 slim etc etc. Got it last week, very intuitive set up (hook up to power, plug the 3 colored plugs into the corresponding colored holes behind the TV, switch to DVD mode, done…then put your DVD in and use the game controller to etc etc). It does not come with memory card, have slots for 2 mem card and 2 game controller (the package only comes with 1 game controller). It is very lightweight, but so far no problem….except if you try to use it as a DVD player, it skips and gets stuck sometimes.

this 9000 series is really very good. I do have one pet peave; it makes me define a parental password each and every time I put in a disk with parental settings. I would rather simply turn parental guidance off completely like I could with the 7000 series ps2; but it is solid and it is a ps2 so — thank you.

ordered this used in good condition. when it got here it was in the box just like it would be if purchased from a store. very pleased with that. the box was in good condition but you could tell that it had been opened a few times. not a big deal. the ps2 works very well with no trouble. it also came with a controller and the cords needed for it. i would purchase from this shop again.
