I’ve more or less accepted that any Genesis collection will not include my favorite old games, those being Chuck Rock II, Cosmic Spacehead, Boogerman, New Challengers Street Fighter 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I personally would like either Belle’s Quest or Pocahontas in one of the Disney games place, too. However, what you do get is great enough, and warrants a place in any Sega old school fans library. The inclusion of Castlevania Bloodlines, Landstalker, and Light Crusader makes this cute little machine a must buy. Bloodlines is a Castlevania I’ve always personally liked, in spite of some people’s opinions on the game. It’s solid in every way and lets you choose between two characters. Shining Force 1 instead of Shining Force II is an odd choice, though. Also, Wonder Boy III Monster Lair included in the Xbox One/PS4 collection should be here, too.I’m focusing on all the should bes and what not when the system is awesome. If you like old school gaming, there’s no reason to not get it.

The Sega Genesis mini is absolutely awesome. You get 42 mostly excellent quality games in a very high quality product straight from Sega and not the junk from Atgames. The menu is simple and easy to use and has some awesome music from yuzo koshiro known for his work on the streets of rage games. It has great sound and emulation so the entire experience should be exactly as you remember it. Now that Nintendo and Sega have their own mini systems it feels like the early 90’s console wars are back with a vengeance.

I grew up playing the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis. Being a huge NES and SNES fanboy, I never thought I’d say this…..but the Sega Genesis Mini is the best retro re-release console made thus far. It is, hands down, better than the NES classic mini and SNES classic mini (which are both excellent mini consoles in their own right). The attention to detail and quality of video/audio is stellar. This entire product was clearly a labor of love for Sega, and was no doubt fueld by a passionate desire to preserve their legacy and to desperately not be remembered by those vastly inferior (and ludicrous) “AtGames Sega Genesis Flashback” consoles. Wow….did they succeed. Relatively-speaking (at $80) this product is of impeccable quality, right down to every detail. I am so happy with my purchase, and I hope Sega blows their sales projections out of the water. They deserve it.

A faithfully emulated way to play classic Sega games in HD on your modern television. A great way to relive past memories while introducing great titles like Streets of Rage 2 to future generations. The unit itself is a fantastic, excessively detailed version of the original Sega Genesis released in the US and the controllers, while a little lighter than the originals, are of solid build quality and feel good to play with. If you love classic Sega, this is a really fun collectible to get your hands on. Don’t buy any of the AtGames imitators with shoddy build quality, bad emulation and padded with fake games. This one is the real deal straight from Sega and the port masters of M2.

Totally worth the purchase. It’s an authentic product of Sega, they rolled this one out for the 30th year anniversary. Comes preloaded with 42 games, all of their most legendary, best-selling games. All the cheat codes work, controllers are responsive, it’s HDMI compatible so most newer tvs should be able to accommodate this one. Also uses the slightly older phone charger as a wall adapter. Everything connects via USB, including the controllers, which means that if you were to ever download a SEGA Genesis emulator onto your computer, you could hook these controllers directly to the computer and use them for gameplay. All games work, and it’s fun to go down memory lane. I HAD to have this little guy when I saw that Eternal Champions, one of the most underrated fighting games, made the list. Seriously, that made my day. Vectorman fun to play as always, and of course, can’t forget Sonic 1 and 2. Wish they had Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic 3D Blast on there, but my other emulator will satisfy that.Anyway it’s worth it for the price, and for a collector’s item.

Being someone who grew up playing the genesis collections of the past on ps2 and Gamecube this is awesome. Actually have a real Genesis is amazing and playing with the original controllers is awesome. Build quality is great and they even made the volume slider and cartidge slot movable. Game selection is awesome and me being a huge Mega Man fan this is worth it for the Wily Wars alone. You have solid titles to chose to play and even some unreleased games to try out. There is something to play for everyone. Great job Sega you have outdone yourselves.

First off the games look and play great ,i played the original games on original hardware, and these games are the same.the controller is three button and looks like the original controller but is usb plug in..The tiny console looks good but the headphone jack and volume knob are just for cosmetics.contoller has a decent length but if you buy the six or 8 button controller thier much longer.i dont know what case would fit this but i’ll buy one if i could find out what fits.what improvements could have been done ?1. make little cartridges that would fit in the opening port on the console that would add more games.the console would have to be made to accept some cartridges.2.make volume and headphone work. sell it for one hundred. and cartridges with ten games each for twenty.i highly recomend buying this so genesis might make more projects come to life in the future.

The Mini is unapologetically awesome, and bless Sega for doing this one right. At long last, Sega is rediscovering its groove and reigniting the 90s, which was arguably their decade more than anyone else’s, including Nintendo. This reissue is confidently executed, competently crafted, and features 42 of the greatest, most diverse, and even surprising titles ever to grace the Genesis, including some unexpected cult classics like Toe Jam & Earl.Rather than focusing on the software which is proven and a real showstopper in the emulation department due to Sega’s personal attention to the Mini, I’ll focus instead on the hardware and packaging.Presentation-wise, Sega knocked it out of the park and through the windshield of an unexpecting passerby. The box screams 1991 nearly as loudly as its iconic ads screamed, “Sega!” with a perfect miniature replica of the Sonic Box as it was known nearly 30 years ago. I love this box.The system itself is just as convincing and features moving cartridge port dust cover flaps, or whatever they were called. Even the volume slider is there, and it slides with conviction and quality. I may spend just as much time admiring the proportions and attentiveness to detail as I will playing the thing. Maybe. The Genesis Mini rocks. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the previously unreleased games and blast the familiar and sorely-missed FM synth, courtesy of a proprietary Yamaha chip that has never been replicated. I think this chip should be celebrated for.

I absolutely love this. I tried the knock off version a few years ago and the button response was awful. There was some serious lag, but this one it’s dead on accurate. I forgot about so many of these games but I’ve been playing it for hours now and I’m pretty sure I like this over the other two minis

  10. SCARFACE

I love this console. Well worth the 80 bucks for all 42 games. With that being said, the game selection was excellent, clearly between 15-20 top sega games ever made. Also, the fact that sega chose M2 to emulate the the games opposed to previous at-games sega emulation was a downright smart decision. The controllers are practically how I remember them on the original genesis 30 years back in 1989. Overall very pround of Sega.
