Awesome quality product by Sega! The box was handled very roughly though as it had dents, tears, and the bottom was re tapped to keep it shut. It was disappointing as a collector to receive the box damaged like that but I was a glad that the console and all the accessories were still in their original packaging and were not damaged in anyway.

I want so bad to give this a 5 star review but 3 button controller and game selection choice prevent that. Yes I dislike segas choice to go with 3 button controllers but on the plus side they are comfortable as heck, highly responsive, high quality, long cords and you get 2. But being that SF2 and Eternal Champions require 6 buttons this cause a dilemma of having to hit select to switch between punch and kick buttons. The game selection is great but not perfect but this is my opinion. I love all the games but feel Spinball, Tetris and Alexx Kid, Mean Bean are a waste of slots. Sega should have included Thunder Force 2 and 4, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage 1 n 3, Sonic 3 n Knuckles, Musha, Centy, Tmnt Hyperstone Hiest, Rocket Knight. But aside from the few games I felt wasted spots you get many great titles, Sonic 1 n 2, Streets of Rage 2, SF2 CE, Eternal Champions, Thunder Force 3, Darius, Fantasy Zone, Golden Axe, Shining Force, Castlevania Bloodlines, Contra HC, Gunstar Heroes. The variety on this mini is unparalleled by any other current mini. You get variety and a goid classic selection of games that are almost spot on. The sound of ever game is pretty faithful. I recomend picking up a 6 button from 8bitdo or retro. I am sure with hackchi and a 6 button this will be a perfect 5 star mini.

My headline pretty much says it all—the system works well, has most (not all, but most) of the best Genesis games from across a variety of genres, comes with two controllers with reasonably long cords (much longer than the normal NES/SNES mini controllers, though not quite as long as those with the extra extenders), and utilizes a quality save system (which can be done in-game with the controller, and thus does not require getting up to hit the physical “Reset” button on the console like the NES and SNES minis). My only “critical” remark (which isn’t actually critical of the product) is that I heard a rumor before I got the console that you could switch between the regions on the Genesis mini, allowing you to play the handful of region-specific games from the PAL and Japanese versions of the console. But as far as I can tell, that is NOT TRUE—if you buy the North American version of the Genesis mini, you will only be able to play those games, as there does not appear to be a region-switch. But again, that’s only a critique of a rumor I heard, not the product itself (which again, is excellent).Top product, buy with confidence.

I grew up a Nintendo kid, and rarely played any Genesis games. Now that I’ve had a chance to experience peak SEGA, I am a fan — and the Genesis Mini is an excellent way to enjoy some of the best titles the console had to offer. The collection of games available here is very good, without a dud in the bunch, and everything looks and sounds great on an HDTV. Be sure to not confuse this with the inferior offerings from AtGames, typically branded as “Sega Genesis Classic Game Console” or “Sega Genesis Flashback”. While cheaper, they have fewer and lower-quality games, problems with software emulation, and notoriously bad music and sound effects.

I was a kid in the era of the Atari 2600. When the Sega came out I was in college and my focus at the time was on girls, cars and my studies in that order. That being said I kind of missed the era of gaming that came out after the big gaming crash. I knew about the Genesis, but as I said my thought were elsewhere. When I saw that this was being released I thought it might be fun to give some of those games that I missed a go. I was not disappointed! These old games are so fun! Not serious, dour and depressing like many of the newer games. The presentation of this machine is excellent. It has a solid build, the controls are the right size and feel like they will stand up to many hour of gaming. The game titles themselves all seem to be top notch. It’s nice to get lost playing video games again. This is a highly addictive fun machine and I highly recommend it!

Sega Genesis Mini might be late to the party, but it really delivers on retro-mini goodness. Sega really put a lot of detail in the mini replication of the console, (the volume slides up and down, the cartridge slot opens, the expansion slot is removable). The software is just as good, game saves and the ability to return to the main menu using the controller. The emulation is nearly perfect. Sega Genesis Mini is a blast.

I’ve never seen a better example of a company truly caring for a product to the point where they have the cartiage slot opennable. The games are great and the audio is beyond good. A big improve after the AtGames genesis. Get it if you love these old Sega gems.

  8. nope_nope

So much better than the AtGames systems. 10/10. Is on par with NES and SNES classics. SEGA has a winner with this little nostalgia machine.

I haven’t purchased the other Sega consoles that Sega has released in the last few years, but this one seems pretty good. The games are the games. I am sure I could argue that other games should have been offered. The console includes a snapshot method to save your game stats at any moment, just like the Nintendo classics or emulators. The Dpad on the controllers seem a bit sensitive, but I think you will get used to it. I would say $79 is a bit steep. $50 would be the sweet spot on the pricing. Now lets get the Sega Saturn Mini released :)

A great all inclusive mini console. Great game selection, two controllers, power supply, and all cables needed. This plugs in and works right outside of the box. No accessories needed. Great for someone who loved the original. Definitely Giftable.
