It has been several months since I read this novel, but I believe it is written in third person. This novel isn’t an easy read, but it will most likely become a classic. I struggled through the first two hundred pages, but then I became entirely engrossed. From the very beginning, I knew the writing was excellent and at the end, I knew it was an excellent novel, rather dark, but memorable. Though it is a novel for the serious reader who will appreciate the power of Zafron’s writing. I highly recommend it.

In my opinion, This book has two story lines. The characters and setting are so vivid and detailed. Such a good mystery and history lesson to boot. This author, Carlos Ruiz Zavon is now one of my favorites. Great ending,

Awhile back ago my brother recommended this book to me and while I saved it on my wishlist, I ended up reading a slew of other books instead. A year or so passes and my brother once again recommends this book to me. I decided to download the Kindle version and check it out. As we all do, I had painted a picture of what I thought this book would be about and how it would be laid out after reading the summary. Oh boy was I wrong. This book was so much more interesting, detailed, complicated, and deeper than I could have imagined. I couldn’t take my eyes off this book yet I didn’t want it to ever end. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this book. It’s also the type of book I know I could read over-and-over and still come across new observations. My brother and I were discussing this book as I was nearing the end of it. The sheer level of excitment and enthusiasm we had for this book convinced my sister, who was with us and listening, decided she too needed to read it. Note that my sister is not a reader, never has been and that’s ok. But for her to actually want to read something is a huge deal. She ended up reading it and was just as obsessed as my brother and I. My brother has decided to re-read it to freshen up on the details so that way the three of us can properly discuss this book, in fact, I’ll probably re-read it again myself. THAT’S how awesome this book is.

This book tells a story like none other, of decades past. An epic tale filled with suspense, murder, ill-fated love and the consequences of the decisions we make in life which, are skillfully woven together in an exquisite literary style with prose that transports one into the story. Absolutely riveting, brilliantly written and a true experience of the power of exceptional storytelling. A delightful and fascinating read for all seasons.

This book was recommended to me by Stephen King so I immediately purchased it. This story is very deep and at times complicated. It tells the story of a boy Daniel who becomes obsessed by an author of the book ,”the shadow of the wind. ” it is the story of the life of the author which the boy pieces together over time; and also the story of the boy as he searches for the truth. It is indeed a masterpiece.

I enjoyed this book very much…I found myself saying “It’s different”. The story is so unique…a book called “Shadow of the wind” that’s all about a book called “Shadow of the wind”…only in the book, the author is different.Very interesting read.

This was a fun book to read, for someone that doesn’t do many historical novels. The key characters were well fleshed out, and the story is interesting and fun. I do feel that the author used some shortcuts to move the story along, but at least they were well written.I am on to the second of the series, and will probably continue through the catalog of his work. I recommend the book regardless of the fact that this may not be your usual fare – it isn’t my normal. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Set in the tremulous world of Spain of the early 20th century amidst World Wars One and Two, with revolution in the mix, this is a story of a generation lost to death and loss. A well written novel with twists and turns as confusing as the streets of Barcelona itself.

A book I that needed to earn my trust, perhaps because of preconceptions I have experienced with authors compared to Zafon. I felt at first as though I was reading on different levels, but pieces began to fall together after the first twenty percent of the book. Foreshadows need to be recognized as you wind through this labyrinth of poetry. This is a dark and complicated story that leaves one with hope in the end.

An engrossing book which takes us to another place and time in a world of intrigue and commitment. It’s easy to relate to it’s entwined characters as they search for understanding and struggle with the dark force of the Inspector who is sworn to kill the object of their search. Well written and draws you in.
