I’m not a big RPG fan, but on occasion I can play one and truely enjoy it (i.e. Fable). So when I bought Marrowind I thought that it should at least be worth the money I put into it. When I first started playing I began walking around talking to people, having more or less no idea what I was supposed to do. So I left town and came across a ‘Mud Crab.’ It killed me, and not know I was suppose to save, I was sent right back to the beginning of the game, where I had to re-pick my charector. I wasn’t happy. From there I learned more about the game, including the incredible usefulness of using codes (e.i. heath replenishing). I’ve faught bandints and beasts and wizards of all kinds in the 15+ hours I’ve put into the game, taking on quests and wandering aroudn through the vast map. I still don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing and as far as I can tell, I haven’t even started the main quest. There’s no sense of direction and the term ‘open-ended’ is taken to a new extreme to where you just wonder aimlessly. The ‘combat’ is hardly that. It consists of rapid ‘hack-and-slash’ style fighting thats about as fun as fighting battles in the boardgame “RISK.” It was a huge letdown compared to the combat in so many other games (Zelda, Fable)But while there is plenty of ‘bad’ to the game, there is more than enough to keep certain gamers happy (especially RPG fans)The graphics are amazing for their time and still stand up against most of today’s games graphics (Grand Theft Auto). the sto.

Every once in a while I think about this game and I feel look an absolute loser playing a game with dark elves, wood elves, argonians (giant lizards), and other such folk. But then I put the game in and all my doubts are erased. Simply put this is the greatest rpg of all time and one of my favorite games ever. I am more of a fan of the old school rpg’s like final fantasy but this game blew me away. You ask why this is such a great game? It’s the FREEDOM you have throughout the game. You can do absolutely anything you want. ANYTHING… you can be told to go kill some rats for a poor village girl, and you can walk to her house and kill all her rats then kill her if you want to. You can enchant rings to make yourself constantly invisible, you can wipe out every single orc in the game. And you can do all of this outside of the main storyline. I have even played through the entire main storyline and I’ve logged in well over 200 hours on this game only counting the main island. In this new version with 2 new expansions the possibilities have become endless. The game itself is easy to get used to and the graphics of the enviroment are unbelievable. The graphics of the people in the game are a little rough and stiff but you will soon forget about that. I dont think I have even scratched the surface of this game and that is saying alot considering I have maxed out my level and have over 1 million gold pieces not to mention my numerous possessions.Another thing is the levelin.

I was turned onto Morrowind several years ago by a friend and was intimidated by the size and scope of the game. It really is beyond anything I have ever seen before. The game world is enormous and I haven’t even left the mainland yet. When people discuss the open endedness of the GTA series I laugh because Morrowind has that game beaten hands down. The funny thing about this game is you can play it for a hundred hours and still not complete one single quest regarding the main story line. In fact this is probably the best way to play the game. I ran through all of the guild and faction quests before embarking on the main journey and it took me months to complete all those quests. All in all the game is enormous. You can’t finish this game 100% because the game changes to how you play it. Decisions you make eliminate certain quests from your line or changes events. Because of this you really do feel that this is a living breathing world.SOme downsides to the game can weaken the experience for demanding gamers. First the game locks up an awful lot. Last night alone my game locked up 4 times in 30 minutes. THis requires you to save virtually all the time to prevent have to replay massive pieces of time. Adding to the frustration of lockup is the very long load times. Everytime a save game is loaded it is a minimum 3-5 minute wait for it to load. Even if you save your game then reload it the game still must purge the world and start over. Walking around also requ.

It has been years ago since I played Arena on my PC. I loved that game and was heart broken when about half the way through the game my character got stuck in a wall in a dungeon (bringing tears to my eyes just thinking about it). I more less just gave up. Now that it has been years later I have gotten a XBOX and saw Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (Game of the Year). I was re-excited about the saga to be played again. I read the many great reviews here at retrolio and was a little weary on buying it due to lock ups that people have complained about. I went ahead and went for it! I was amazed of how much more stuff you could do than what I played in those Arena days. Yes the game does lock up from time to time, but I believe the game it self out weighs the lock up. I would have given it the full five stars if it weren’t for the lock up issue. The loading time I can deal with. All and all I highly recommend it as a must have game for your XBOX collection.

I still play this game. Bethesda created an amazing world with a good story line and memorable characters. It’s slow-moving and dreamlike. Very immersive.

Morrowind is an amazing game that will be appreciated most by serious Elder Scrolls fans since this game is outdated

  8. Logical Paradox

I wasn’t sure I would like Morrowind at first. I have to say Im not a huge fan of RPGs. The final fantasy series and other “traditional” RPG games really turned me off of the genre. Morrowind however, showcases everything positive about the concepts of RPG gameplay in a game that I was truly impressed with.First Graphics. Morrowind is played from a first person perspecitve, but a 3rd person view is also available at any time with a simple click of the right thumb stick. The glorious 3d engine does an amazing job of rendering a gorgeous environment. The water effects in particular are breath-taking. Weather effects too are just incredible. The visual aspect of the game blows any other RPG game out of the water.Sound too is well done. The effects of thunder really shakes the room, and the opening theme music really sounds epic and gets you in the mood for adventure. Voice work isnt bad either, but some sound effects could have used some extra detail and variety – more musical variety for example, and battle sound effects are somewhat generic.Gameplay however is paramount in this game. Morrowind is a HUGE and expansive game, you play a character which you create yourself in a province called morrowind of the “great empire”. When you begin you can choose between a whole bunch of races, and classes, as well as choosing your look, sex, name and birthsign. This allows for limitless variety in gameplay experience and replayabillity. Playing the game as a Nord Warrior born under the w.

The elder scrolls morrowind was a great buy by itself but when I found out their was a map inside I was delighted even more the elder scrolls series was always good but even though this was older than skyrim and oblivion it was one of the bests

  10. SecOps

Fantastic game and a great bang for your buck. Getting all the expansions in one go is a great idea. Spent more than 80 hrs into this game. The music alone makes the purchase worth it.
