I like the idea behind this game’s concept. The concept was to create a new Final Fantasy game with an older feel. The graphics are great for DS. I wasn’t impressed with the music though. I expect better from a Final Fantasy game. In other Final Fantasy games the music was catchy. At this moment I can’t really recall how any of the main songs go. No not even the battle them.Veteran gamers will recognize the class system. There are a few problems with the class system but it works well enough. One problem is that some earlier classes become obsolete and a few even start out worthless. The good classes are good enough though so you won’t have to worry about running out of options in tougher battles. One thing I’ve found annoying in this game is the large amount of time gathering gems from random battles in order to upgrade classes and equipment. Only certain enemies drop certain gems. The story is ok but it’s not exactly “epic”. It seems like the goal is very simple but getting to it is like taking the cabbie route there. The people of your town have turned to stone and you need to break the spell. This apparently leads you all over the world solving other problems. I guess that’s the classic RPG feel you’re supposed to get. A talking crystal bestows new abilities to the heroes as they progress. As with the classic and original Final Fantasy, darkness is filling the world and only four people have the power to stop an unseen ultimate evil. I guess talking crystals are very partic.

Solid game, lots of options with the job system. Worth buying.

The classic JRPG we all wanted when everything after FFX started to fall off from the Final Fantasy games we all loved. Compared to the main series of games, The 4 Heroes of Light would mostly take after FFIII (DS version to be precise), but compared to FFIII, T4HoL is definitely more polished in terms of gameplay. The game also seems similar to the Dragon Quest series (perhaps around DQ3-4). Playing this game in 2014, the graphics, music, and intriguing art style all blend together to make a beautiful DS game. All-in-all, a great game with a new job system & good customization options.

    all good

It’s old style RPG. Nothing spectacular about the graphics. The gameplay is really fun though. I love the hats you can wear that give you a specialty. I really didn’t expect this game to be so enjoyable. You do have to grind a bit, but I like to grind and work my team into a powerful, experienced fighting force so grinding for me is no big deal.

good game for JRPG and turn-base lovers!

The 4 Heroes of Light is so different from what I expected from a modern Final Fantasy game, and that’s a compliment. When I think of current Final Fantasy games, I think of overwrought, overcomplicated productions. The 4 Heroes of Light reminds me more of an Atlus game. It’s quiet and offbeat, and thoroughly enjoyable. The quest is straightforward, and you are given *just* enough guidance to keep going. I never felt like there was too much instruction keeping me on course, nor did I ever feel lost. The storyline cleverly jumps between different characters to keep things from becoming stale. The limited number of items you can carry poses an old school level of challenge, sometimes requiring you to start over when you encounter a new world just to make sure you bring the right items. The dungeons have kept me maddeningly lost for hours at a time, but I keep coming back for more. This is a game that knows when to keep things simple and knows when to layer it on. Beautiful, painterly graphics are a major plus.

Good- Turn based combat with more strategy and planning involved than older Final Fantasy games- Experimenting with and acquiring new jobs/abilities is great fun.- Has endgame content which will last a while.- If you’re a fan of Bravely Default/Second, you’ll be interested to see how its predecessor tackled the job system.Bad- Limited inventory space is a hassle, compounded by the desire to hoard stuff.- Story and characters are rather simple, not really the focus of the game. On the flipside, you don’t get interrupted by story segments as often as other RPGs.- Pretty much all aspects of the game are improved upon by Bravely Default/Second
