I decided to watch this movie after renting "The Avengers" and really liking the Tony Stark/Iron Man character in that film. The movie is the story of how/why Tony Stark becomes Iron Man after spending most of his life as the spoiled son of a leading industrialist/weapons supplier. This is very much an action film with minimal sex, so parents can feel comfortable letting their children watch it.The best parts of this movie are when Tony Stark first tests out his revised Iron Man suit design. These scenes have the joy of discovery and flight I have not seen since "Flight of the Navigator" and are absolutely some of my favorite Iron Man scenes between this movie and The Avengers. If you are interested in watching any of the Avengers Movies, please watch this one first. It is a lot of fun.

After recently becoming enamored with Marvel comics thanks to The Punisher Show on Netflix, The last two Avengers movies, and Guardians of the Galaxy, I revisited the film that basically started it all. I saw it many years ago, when it first came out, but it never stuck with me. I thought it was “cool,” but it didnt bring me into the fold the way the newer movies have. Perhaps my lack of interest had to do with my ignorance to the marvel universe.I thought this film was good, but it shows how far marvel and associates have come in film-making when you compare it to the more recent films. It’s generally fun to see the birth of Iron Man, but the enemies seemed dated and cliche (which I feel might have been the case upon release). It just seemed like the antagonists were opportunistic creations to try and relate to the times. With so many amazing villains they could have pulled from, it seemed a bit of a let down to go the old “middle eastern terrorist” route. Overall it’s a good film, and Jr.’s acting has basically become the standard for Stark. It was fun to see where it all began.

We are a large family (9 of us), and all of us enjoy superhero movies. My husband is a comic book geek, and we have all learned about the DC and Marvel universes via osmosis. In other words, we know our comic book heroes.Ironman far outshines all other comic-based movies to date. This movie has the rare mixture of a comic book feel, great story, characters you care about, AND…NO Cheese. I was hesitant when they cast Downey for the part- I am a huge fan, but felt he would not make a good Tony Stark. I was completely wrong- Downey IS Tony Stark. Flawless. The Director was wise enough to let Downey do what he does best- ad lib. He is a natural comedian, and added just enough humor to turn an ok role into a work of art. This movie would have been average without his comedic presence.Paltrow ended up being a good choice as well. She is like wallpaper most of the movie, present, but not overwhelming. This allows Downey to stay in the spotlight where he belongs.I have seen ALL of the comic based movies, as well as many of the animated straight to DVD as well. Mind you, there are many other good movies. Heath Ledger was INCREDIBLE as the Joker in the latest Batman movie. However, as an overall great comic-based movie, Ironman is going to be really hard to beat as my all-time favorite.I hope there is an Ironman sequel in the planning, and hoping they do as good a job with the Avengers as they did with this one. MArvel has stepped it up a notch. Maybe this will push DC into giving us.

I’m a Batman fan, but not that comicbook nerd type that will debate with you “who would win in a fight with….”, that’s all just stupid. But coming from Batman, Ironman is the closest thing in the Marvel Universe. There isnt much that I like in the Marvel Universe, but Ironman is definitely the top spot for me, and its all due to this movie! I think Robert Downey was the perfect choice for Tony Stark, and John Favreau did a great job directing. There are probably gonna be those that say, “it wasn’t true to the comic” waaaa waaa, blah blah blah, who gives a crap! I never read comic book ONE with a marvel title, so the idea of creating these films is to attract people like myself, as well as quell the fans. I think this film did both very well.As far as the product itself, it has a great amount of extras! I have yet to listen to the commentary, but I expect good thingsAll in all, it’s now made me buy the Civil War series of comics related to this character, so it’s worth it on all levels. “Then why not give it 5 stars”, you ask? Because I’m a stingy bastard! How’s that?

I love this movie as does my entire family. Robert Downey Jr was seriously born to play Tony Stark, I mean who else can you imagine in the role. Great story, acting and action. One that I can watch numerous times which I have and will continue to.

Okay, so I’m following the whole super hero thing primarily because they are great action films that allow me to use the full functionality of my 3D TV along with my 7.1 surround sound system. I almost never go to a movie any more. After taking my grandson to the movies to see super 8, I may never go to a movie again unless it’s an IMAX movie. Super 8 was way better on blu ray in my living room. I kid you not. By the way, that is also a very good movie that is full of nuance.I just wait for the Blu Ray release, make some popcorn and sit back and enjoy. It’s way cheaper. That being said, this movie well made the grade for such an endeavor. The storyline is tight, well told, well paced and well acted.About the only complaint that I can make has to do with the sound. I found myself using close-caption since some parts of the movie was inaudible. This tragedy…yes I said tragedy is found in alot of movies now-a-days. What the heck are the producers thinking when they know that great technology is at their fingertips. What’s all of the mumbling about? I’m sure that I’m not the only one screaming about this. Why mumble when you can speak. Clearly. Decisively. With intent. So that you can be heard. Through one or eight speakers.Nonetheless, this cannot be blamed on the actors. Weight must fall on the directors and producers. If the mike can pick up the slightest sound, then have the actor stand back a little to match the mike. How hard is this?Fortunately, movies made sin.

This is a great and exciting movie. Stark, a genius billionaire who made his money creating weapons, is kidnapped in the middle east and forced to design a weapon for a group of terrorists. Instead of taking the time and resources supplied by the terrorists to build them a weapon, Stark builds the first version of the Iron Man suit and uses it to escape. The experience turns Stark off from weapons because its was his tech in the hands of the wrong people that led to his capture. He decides to build the Iron Man suit and right the wrongs of his company be destroying any weapons in the hands of the wrong people. This is an exciting and fun movie, I only gave it four stars because it moves a little slow in the beginning, but I would still highly recommend it.

This movie started it all for the MCU. At this point, I’d suspect no one is buying this movie blind. But if you are, I think it still holds up to the more current offerings, albeit with far less action, especially the final fight.Still, if you’re looking to round out your collection of comic-related movies on blu-ray then this is a necessary addition.

Excellent portrayal of one of Marvel Comics’ greatest heroes. The movie itself does a fantastic job on introducing the Tony Stark as well as the Iron Man superhero that we all know and love. The plot is interesting, the technology is intriguing, and the creation of the Iron Man suit is entertaining to watch. Another thing to note is the humor that follows the story line, as Tony Stark is this character that appears as if he does not take things too seriously but ultimately seeks to do the right thing when needed. Overall a great movie to watch regardless if you are not into superhero movies but are just looking for an action packed film with a generous portion of humor. It is also the perfect movie to watch if interested in the chain of movies that follow the story line that leads to the Avengers movies, and the Captain America: Civil War movie.

Okay, it’s been out for a while & most fans of the genre have already seen it, but for my money, Iron Man set a new standard for Supers movies. Robert Downey Jr. is the ideal person to play the troubled tragic hero, Tony Stark. Jeff Bridges makes a great Obidiah Stane & Gwenyth Paltrow is okay as Pepper Potts. My only casting disappointment was Terrence Howard as James Rhodes, as he was just a bit stiff & the part did not seem to be natural for him.The only real downside of the movie is the ever present origin story. You would think that the studios would realize it really isn’t necessary. (I mean was there an origin story for Gandalf in Lord of the Rings? Did anyone miss it?) At least they wove the origin part of the movie into the plot line & I am quibbling a bit here to find fault with this flic.If you are a fan of comics, if you like action / adventure & if you have not yet seen this movie, then you are missing out.
