Not only are the action sequences of this movie great, but the story line is intriguing and very well-paced. Robert Downey Jr plays this part perfectly, and is one of the best castings of the Marvel series, imho. This is also one of the few movies/franchises in Hollywood where the rich person is NOT the villain, but instead is the champion, innovator, entrepreneur, and embraces the idea that being successful can actually be to the good of mankind. I get tired of the stereotypical "rich people are evil" narrative.

Years from now, when every other film that Hollywood throws onto the big screen is a superhero flick, just know that this is the film that started it all. Yeah there were others before it, but Iron Man brought the super hero genre into the mainstream and made Marvel a household name. No longer are these sci-fi action flicks for geeks and brainiacs, now everyone is into flying metal suits and super powered creatures from the pages of Marvel comics. And that’s not a bad thing, unless you’re one of those people who don’t like musicians or bands anymore once they go mainstream.

As part of bingeing away the lockdowns, I started a front to end of the MCU. I had forgetten how good this was out of the gate. For RDJ to hit it so far out of the park as T. Stark was an amazing carreer restarter for him and and amazing start for the MCU.

It’s no wonder that everyone is praising Iron Man in some way. For me, Iron Man is the best origin movie ever made. It surpasses every original installment of any superhero film to date. It doesn’t just manage to deliver a little bit of everything but it does it with style and integrity. Iron Man is a film everyone can enjoy because it cares enough to deliver excellence on every front. The mega talented cast fit each main character perfectly and the story itself is told in a masterful, crisp manner. The dialogue is witty and what humor there is works its way seamlessly in to the natural order of the story. (No forced bachelor party dancing to set up a joke etc.) A couple of comic book style slugfests are included but inserted only as a vehicle for the story. Things aren’t blown up just for the sake of seeing them go boom. What makes Iron Man a true rarity is that it’s a fine film for kids but it’s even greater if you’re an intelligent adult. How many movies can you say that about? This is truly moviemaking of the most entertaining order and it easily deserves all the praise it has generated from both fans and critics alike.

I am slowly getting into the Marvel Universe and was glad to find the intro film at a lower price than what you find in the stores (when you get find it). The movie is good with great affects and a good performance by Robert Downey Jr. I am glad they replaced Howard with Cheadle for the later movies. A good way to start a franchise!

Wow, what a great movie night at home! That was exactly the immersive and entertaining escape cinema should bring. Action, humor, and telling the story with homage rightly paid to the archetypal seriousness of power fantasy and play that’s second nature to boys who loved their comic books and graphic novels. That’d be me forty years ago.I was reluctant to see this on the big screen, having been let down by other Hollywood comic book adaptations – but the timing was right this winter 2016. So glad movies and popcorn can be part of the home experience! Plus my own coming of teenage years stepped in line with a certain fondness for Robert Downey Jr, remembering his presence on the screen from Saturday Night Live, Weird Science and Less than Zero. I think I identified with the weird pariah persona, a sometimes self-loathing but oddly likeable loser.Clearly Downey made the movie, affording us enough complexity, subtly and richness in his transformation of character to keep the movie experience from going graphically flat and vanilla. This kept the movie alive for me, and I could really enjoy the artistry, the special effects, the fast motion action and the booming score and sound design. Like I said, immersive. :)Hollywood did Iron Man right.Good times!

Even before this film, it appears that Iron Man was a staple in many lives through the comic strip; by now it appears to be a thriving industry, what with actor and animated movie sequels and I don’t know how many other manifestations. Whatever the rest of the Empire can deliver in terms of entertainment (I have seen none of it), this movie was worth watching and can be recommended for pretty much all the family (old enough to know it’s only actors who are being killed and they will get up to play again). Downey and Bridges are admirable in their roles and Gwyneth Paltrow does as well as necessity to be a subdued character allows. I don’t know that you want to pay much attention to the “moral” issues which are inserted to differentiate the Good Guy from the Bad Guy; they are there so that the tradition of the Comic Book (and much else in the popular media)-The Fight Between Our Guy (Good) and the Other Guy (Evil) can be manifest. Audiences love, and perhaps need, that. I do too.

This is no Dark Knight, but it isn’t really trying to be. It’s a quasi-realistic superhero movie for this cynical post-9/11 world we live in, but it’s also self-aware and has a great sense of humor.Robert Downey Jr. is flawless every time he’s on screen. His character is also very well-written. He’s a genius and a hero, but also a thoroughly imperfect human being, a charismatic jerk at the beginning who has plenty of room to grow into a wiser and better man without losing his charm.Unfortunately, Iron Man begins the MCU pattern of having villains that are simply mirror images of the protagonist, minus everything that makes them compelling. As a result, while Acts 1 and 2 of this film are terrific, Act 3 is disappointing and a little flat.

I used to read Marvel comics with my Dad. Most were from the 50’s and 60’s but we bought some in the 70’s to read “new”. By the 80’s I was totally into Star Wars and Ieft Marvel comics behind.Still the nostalgia was there when I saw this movie, and I can’t tell you how happy I was that they got the essence of the casting right. The actors are all fabulous, the script is pretty awesome too. I’m pretty sure I only said, “Oh that’s just stupid,” once while watching. Which for me is a pretty good measure of a great movie. This has been watched dozens of times and the disk is still in great shape despite being purchased used. This set even got me interested in the Iron Man Armored adventures [It was a fun show, especially to watch with kids 8-12].
