    It looked good as new

This was a great books. I never wanted to put it down. I am going off now to read the next in the series.

This is book 2 in the Mark of the Thief series. Nic is still in heaps of trouble from having stolen the bulla of Caesar’s and being marked by magic. His grandfather still seems bent on making his life miserable, and Aurelia and Crispus are making him jealous. The action continues and never stops. My only negative about this book is that it ends on a cliff-hanger. Those aren’t my favorite endings. But I really love the characters and how the book moves me along at a fast pace. No boring parts in this one. It is a thriller.

Rise of the Wolf is the second book in the Mark of the Thief Trilogy. It’s an excellent read as the story keeps you wondering what will happen next. I read Mark of the Thief and then just had to read Rise of the Wolf. I’m now reading the 3rd book in the series, Wrath of the Storm and it’s just as great.Jennifer’s other series “Ascendance Trilogy” (False Prince) was a great read too. After I read that series, I just had to check out the Mark of the Thief trilogy and it does not disappoint.Jennifer Nielsen has a way of writing with twists and turns that keep you riveted

If you are looking for a book full of suspense and intensity, this is it. Amazingly well written, it has gripped me from the start. In my case, it’s been too intense. I’ve only been able to read it in small bursts. It’s one of those books that goes from bad to worse with nary a reprieve. It’s more a series of unfortunate events than the series by the same name. I’m only hoping the third book won’t end in tragedy. That said, the language, characters, setting, and plot are all phenomenal.

    Exciting!

We are big Jennifer Nielsen fans at our house and so we were excited to read Rise of the Wolf. It did not disappoint! I often have a hard time finding age appropriate books for my eleven year old son who reads above is grade level. I appreciate, as a parent, Jennifer’s books because she manages to tell a fantastic story that keeps his (and mine!) attention without all the extra unnecessary stuff. Well done!

Combine Harry Potter and Game of Thrones plots and writing stiles and you have a great book. It’s not as slow as Lord of the Rings books but it’s not as quick as Harry Potter. It’s a nice change up. I really enjoyed the read.

Nic’s difficult, action-packed life continues in this second installment as he finds himself once again caught in the Praetor War. The Praetors are on the hunt for the Malice of Mars, the second powerful amulet and they are certain Nic is the one to obtain it. As his family is threatened, Nic has no choice but to comply with their demands.I personally like this book better than the first; it held my attention more and the characters seemed to better connect in this one. Perhaps it is because Nic is learning to trust and his relationship with Aurelia, Crispus, and even Radulf deepen. The chariot race is an exciting element of the story and similar to the first, readers get a glimpse of how life was in Rome. Of course, it ends on a cliffhanger and we once again fear for Nic’s life, but we know he will somehow overcome the danger and end out the victor!
