Sega Genesis – Features

Despite its age, the Sega Genesis is still regarded as one of the best consoles ever due to its features and the impact it had on the childhoods of many.

Great Processor

The main microprocessor is a 16/32-bit Motorola 68000 CPU clocked at 7.6 MHz. Also, an 8-bit Zilog Z80 processor controls the sound hardware and provides backward compatibility with the console’s predecessor, the Master System.

Impressive Rendering Power

The system has 72 kB of RAM and 64 kB of video RAM. It can display up to 61 colours at once from a palette of 512.

Powerful Sound

The system produces sound using a Texas Instruments SN76489 PSG. It is integrated with the Video Display Processor (VDP), and a Yamaha YM2612 FM synthesizer chip. Finally, the Z80 processor primarily controls both sound chips to produce stereo music and sound effects.

Sega Genesis – Games

In a library of over 900 games you can find iconic titles that are still a staple in the gaming community to this day!

Sonic The Hedgehog

The game features an anthropomorphic hedgehog named Sonic in a quest to defeat Dr. Robotnik, a scientist who has imprisoned animals in robots and stolen the powerful Chaos Emeralds. Lastly, the gameplay involves collecting rings as a form of health, and a simple control scheme, with jumping and attacking controlled by a single button.

Mortal Kombat 2

The game’s plot continues from the first game, featuring the next Mortal Kombat tournament set in the other-dimensional realm of Outworld, with the Outworld and Earthrealm representatives fighting each other on their way to challenge the evil emperor Shao Kahn. Also, Mortal Kombat 2 introduced more varied finishing moves (including several Fatalities per character) and new finishers.

Ms. Pac-man

Part of a best-selling game series, in MS. Pac-Man, controlling the titular character, the player is tasked with eating all of the pellets in an enclosed maze while avoiding four coloured ghosts. Eating large flashing “Power Pellets” will cause the ghosts to turn blue and flee, which can be consumed for bonus points.

NBA Jam

This video game based on the National Basketball Association found popularity with its photorealistic digitized graphics, over-the-top presentation and exaggerated style of two-on-two basketball play. NBA Jam allowed players to jump many times above their height. Make slam dunks that defy human capabilities, and freely shove or elbow opponents out of the way and get flagged. In addition, it also featured a variety of secret characters and the ability to track player records and statistics between play sessions.

Disney’s Aladdin

Disney’s Aladdin is a 2D side-scrolling video game in which the player controls Aladdin and his monkey Abu through several stages taking place throughout the city of Agrabah. With each stage, defeat foes by jumping on them, throwing apples to avoid obstacles. And lastly, collecting gems to turn them into health and extra points and more.

NFL 98

NFL 98 is a sports video game released for the Sega Genesis based on the National Football League. The game features the NFL roster for 98, alongside alumni teams and all-star teams. Finally, have up to 3 of your friends join you for added fun.
