I used to think Hong Kong movies of that age were all fuzzy, until I saw this Criterion version. Also, on the back of the poster, there’s an essay.

Character development isn’t the point. Police Story 2 was my introduction to Jackie Chan and it’s one of those weird movies whose best scenes will always be crip memories. Chan is a huge Charlie Chaplin fan and it shows. Imagine martial arts duels in the most unlikely places and and in which no object on the set is overlooked as weapon. …at least for a frame or two. You’ll laugh throughout and then need to go through some scenes frame by frame to get all the choreography. Slow motion sounds like a chore, but it’s half the fun.

  3. Cameron Young

A great collection of two entertaining movies and engaging bonus features!

  4. Chris B Robinson

Great box set, 2 discs plus poster and in really nice packing. I’ve been awaiting this release for quite some time and it did NOT disappoint. Well worth the wait! Anything from Criterion, you know the transfer and quality of the film. Highly recommended! A+

I got this mainly for the original Police Story, but the second one is great too.A lot of people I know watched many of Jackie’s movies but missed this for some reason. It really is one of his best as far as his stunts go.Great addition to the Criterion Collection.

  6. Adam Fletcher

Police Story features some of the greatest stunts and action scenes you’ll ever see. As a film, it’s a little uneven, and some of the humor either doesn’t translate well to Western audiences or is a little dated. It’s not as accessible as a film like Rush Hour or Shanghai Noon, but it is absolutely worth watching. The final ten minutes of the film, which I’ve watched probably more than 100 times in my lifetime, is exhilarating and is virtually flawless as an action piece. No one has ever or will ever do it better.Police Story 2 is not as good as the first film, but the fights are excellent and there are also some good stunts. And bear in mind, these are stunts without the benefit of wires, special effects, or doubles. What you see is what Jackie Chan did.Criterion did an excellent job with this restoration. I own many version of these films, and based on what I saw in the theater, this release promises to be the best to date (though some people prefer Eureka’s recent release, which is Region B only). If you’ve never seen a Jackie Chan movie, or you’ve only seen his major Hollywood releases, watch Police Story. The slower or sillier parts are worth waiting out–the end is sheer brilliance.

Jaw dropping stunts galore!Jackie Chan’s crime thriller Police Story (1985) is an exhilarating blast like no other action movie. First of all, Jackie Chan’s direction is surprisingly fresh and skillful. His use of a still shot focused into followed by a sweeping panning shot is engaging and exciting every time. His quick cuts remain grounded by props and people so that you never lose sight of the action. His storytelling is excellent between the drug dealer plot, police corruption subplot, and romance subplot. Chan tackles police investigations, criminal scheming, courtroom proceedings, and high octane chases with the same brilliant hyper speed focus. Police Story is a well directed film from Jackie Chan early in his career. The music for Police Story is a pounding and thudding composition full of 1980’s excitement and silly ideas. It works to keep you in suspense as well as enjoying the entertaining moments in Police Story. It fits the era perfectly.Jackie Chan is obviously the reason to watch Police Story. His lightning fast movements compel you through loud shootouts, car chases, foot chases, hand to hand combat, and comedic setups alike. I love getting to see Jackie Chan shoot through several drug dealer henchmen in the beginning. You get to see Chan pull off his own version of The French Connection’s sting, which leads into a 10 minute gunfight with bullets firing from everywhere. His car escape by driving through the homes of civilians is hilarious as well as shocking. C.

Looks like , I need to spend again on this edition even I have the normal Blu Ray collection. This is one of the best Jackie Chan production from Hong Kong. It features real stunts and action as there is no CGI in the eighties . The fighting stunts are performed by himself as he was still young . Police Story combines Action and humour . Never a dull moment . Worth to spend to buy this Criterion collection.

Please remaster and release all of his movies between 1980-2000

  10. Michael C. Roussakies

These are my favorite Jackie Chan movies and couldn’t wait for these to come out. Haven’t watched all yet but bluray looks great and good amount of extras I think. Highly recommended
