The Game Boy Advance SP, especially the Pearl Pink and Pearl Blue versions, as well as the improved black one, have much brighter screens than the original models, making it much easier to see. Instead of a dull pinkish color, now reds are truly displayed as reds. The Pearl Pink color is very pleasant. It’s a rather soft color. The only thing that could make this handheld unit any better is a headphone port, but aside from this, if you want to play your old Game Boy games or Game Boy Advance cartridges, you can’t go wrong!

I already have the very first original game boy advance that came in the grey semi transparent color. It still works just fine, I only bought the SP (used) because I hate having to replace batteries and the very important fact that the back screen on the original isn’t lit. That is the biggest reason for the SP upgrade. I wanted to play my old gameboy color Legend Of Zelda games without having to shine a desk light on the screen just so I could see it. The SP makes a world of difference. I am kinda bummed that I had to replace the rechargeable battery pack, but I guess that is to be expected for a system as old at this. I like that you can turn off the back light all together when it’s not needed. I am a little worried about the light burning out and not being able to replace it due to it’s age, but I heard that Nintendo is releasing the very Zelda games I have on virtual console in the near future. I will most likely purchase and download them to my Nintendo 3DS system. I won’t have to carry 2 systems with me when I travel.

Still my kids favor even at 21 years old, they still play it. Debating if all my college kids want a Nintendo switch and they’ll spend time at my house again! Oh the joys of parenting…

Said it might have scratches. These are scratches that you have to use a microscope to find. In better condition than expected. Works flawlessly. Bring back pure nostalgia. Felt like a big kid to have this back in my hands. Even came with a miniature origami swan. Nice.

  5. Faith Laliberte

The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the one I got was pretty scratched up and I feel it could have been a little bit cheaper because of it. But other than that it works beautifully, it’s just the outside that’s scratched up, the inside is in pretty solid condition, the buttons aren’t jammed or anything and work great, and the screen is in great condition as well. All in all I’m pleased. My problem can be easily fixed just by getting some stickers to cover up the scratches, and I did buy it used after all.

Bought this for my husband’s deployment for afghanistan. Came with a charger and worked great. Certainly not disappointed.

    Works great

  8. Bigstory

I own all three versions of Game Boy Advance(original/SP/micro) and while none of these versions are perfect I’d have to say that the SP – Graphite is my favorite. This has a back-lit screen that when turned onto the higher level is almost as bright as the Micro, but unlike the Micro this system can also play all the older Game Boy software. Also the screen is just large enough to where you don’t need to strain your eyes(unlike with the Micro). And I like that when you are done playing you can close the flip-screen and have a very compact system that can be easily carried around in your pocket. The one small drawback for me is that the buttons & d-pad are a bit close to each other. In my opinion this is the better choice to play GBA games.

This gameboy advanced sp brings back so many nostalgic memories. The background light works just fine and so does the sound. It arrives uncharged but that’s understandable, I just don’t want someone to be surprised and get upset or worried, it’s normal. Enjoy!
