With the release of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, I was curious as to where exactly Pit came from. With how many games I’ve played, I was amazed that I’d never actually even heard of Kid Icarus. Especially because it was a very successful and popular video game in the NES days, where I began my gaming. It may be late, but I’m glad I went back and played the original Kid Icarus. Also, if anyone is interested, it has been released on the Wii’s virtual console and it should only cost you 500 Wii Points to download.Kid Icarus is about Pit. He’s on a quest to save the world from the evil demon Medusa who is plotting to kill all the mortals. Just like every NES game, the story is simple and straight forward. Kid Icarus has a lot of great gameplay elements to it as well. Imagine if Mario and Zelda were combined to make the perfect game and that’s pretty much what Kid Icarus is. The levels are side scrolling levels very much like Mario, but you can also go into doors and purchase items like in Zelda. There are four worlds in Kid Icarus. You’ll go through the basic levels in Mario fashion. Starting with level 1-1. You’ll then have to explore a labyrinth to get to the world’s final boss. Each labyrinth is a maze of sorts and at the end you’ll fight a boss. The levels themselves are fairly well designed, most of them looking as though they should’ve been in Metroid to begin with. You’ll have enemies coming at you left and right ready to take you on and all you’ll be able to do.

Kid Icarus is very cool. You are Icarus and you have been sent to the depths of Hades to defeat Medusa. Along the way you pick up some powers to aid you in your quest to bring back peace to the heavens and to destroy Medusa.First and foremost, it’s all skill here. There are no cheats, no codes and NO LIFE BAR. You get hit once, and you’re dead. Plain and simple. Like a lot of the early NES games, you had to be real good to make any progress in this because otherwise you were wasting your time. So really, when you’re playing this one, you need to be on your best because you won’t make it otherwise.Again, very cool classic NES game. It will challenge you throughout the entire adventure. Not only do I recommend this one, but also Mega Man 2, Castlevania and of course, any other the Marios. Enjoy this one!

Where can one begin to express their feelings when it comes to something so legendary. Kid Icarus has stood in the front runner of classic warriors that Nintendo could conjure up, making appearances for 8bit land, changing his name to Pit in Smash Bros, and coming out with his own title soon for Wii.This title from my hay day was one that I have a personal vendetta with, only playing it when I visited my aunt (who was pretty radical) eventually filling a note book with passwords, which lead me to making it to the last level’s castle doors.Sadly I never got to beat the game, I recently bought it to collect. I would like to say one day I will beat this game some day, but who would Wild E. Coyote be with his Road Runner? I feel my world would end by stuffing my face with 20 year old Hulkster Ice Cream Bars until the Hulk himself leg drops through my stomach, Wild E. Coyote would be dreaming of swallowing erasers to fill the void that eating his reason for living.I suggest you play this game with the intention of finding the answer to your lifes questions, as you climb each level blasting enemys with your bow, that shoots arrows of awesome.

  8. Visa

Probably one of the best NES games out there. Incredibly fun platformer.

  9. Jeffrey Wood
