I would give 6 stars if I could. I played most of these when they were released. This level of nostalgia is unprecedented. I play now with my preteen girls. It’s unfathomable how much I enjoy playing the games I grew up with with my children having them give me grief how great they are are these games! I plan to buy many more cartridges even though there are so many pointless games. There are enough games to counteract: Mario(s), street fighter, lolo, turtles, rpgs, and so many others. The only feedback I have is the original controllers have a severe issue with pushing the up button in the directional pad. It had its issues much of the time. I don’t care: I have ordered some other controllers and plan to continue to play with my children the games that I spent my younger years with.

The game system is awesome. I’ve played numerous Nintendo and Super Nintendo cartridges, and the system works beautifully with no problems or glitches whatsoever. Importantly, this system has an HDMI connector so you can connect it to an HDMI input that current HDTVs have. My TV is a 65-inch 4K and the system works great; the picture is rock solid at 720p and fills the screen. The first game system I bought cost less, but it did not have the all-important HDMI connector. This system does, and at $80, I feel like it was a bargain. Meanwhile, I’m amazed the old, original game cartridges themselves work; they had been in the attic for years and were subjected to all the extreme temperatures attics have. Nevertheless, this system plays them all perfectly (and my old Game Genie cartridges work, too!). The system will also play Genesis cartridges, as well, and although I have no Genesis games to try, I’m sure it plays every bit as well as my now-vintage Nintendo games! I cannot recommend this system highly enough for those of you kept your old game cartridges – and for those of you who want to discover these gems from the past!

All my old childhood games work perfectly on HD tv. No more blowing in cartridges. Only problem is I will get less work done now…

This is a great little console for those looking to relive the glory of NES, SNES and Sega Genesis. It plays all of my old cartridges that have been sitting in a cabinet for decades collecting dust. The image quality on a modern TV is surprisingly good, even on my 65” UHD TV. I only gave it 4 stars for a couple of reasons. First, the controllers aren’t extremely responsive. I realize that modern standards are different, but I know that they are less responsive than the original NES controllers because when playing Mega Man, one part that requires rapid platform jumping was impossible to achieve. The second criticism is that there is no eject button for the cartridges, and this console makes it very hard to pull them back out. My kids were tempted to put a knee on the console just to get enough leverage, so I had to stop them and do it myself. All in all, pretty great though for the price.

When playing this console on an HDTV, there is a a significant input lag. I have my TV set for game mode, and have a lot of the image filtering features turned off. I’ve put other systems through their paces such as the RetroUSB AVS console and Nintendo’s own SNES classic. The input lag is inherent to the Retro Trio, not my setup.I also tested it via the RCA composite connectors on a CRT TV. This eliminated the input lag, but I did notice the sound is pretty over-modulated compared to original consoles, or particularly in the case of NES games, the sounds are just way off. Grabbing coins in Super Mario Bros is very noticeably off sounding. If you’re looking for a spot-on recreation of your original hardware and are a retro enthusiast, this probably won’t satisfy you. If you don’t care about the technicalities and input lag doesn’t bother you, or you don’t play the originals enough to notice it, this system will perfectly get your old game collection running on your new TV.And if you care about such a thing, this system does not dump the ROM from the cart and run it as software emulation. It actually reads the ROM from the cart as the original hardware would.
