I love the game, but it did get stuck in one part. Every time I got to it, the screen would just go dark. Eventually I got past it, but it was annoying. However, the game is still fun if you like lego video games.

I prefer the Lego Harry Potter, Years 1-4 for DS, but this version isn’t bad. I have played the MAC version of Years 1-4, so I am familiar with the layout/controls for 5-7. If I were not familiar with the MAC game, I am pretty sure I’d dislike this one.That being said, once I got used to the controls, I found this game a little easier to follow. Knowing how to use the spells made the gameplay easier to anticipate than the previous game, as there was no bothersome having to redraw a spell because it wasn’t drawn well enough.I do miss the in-game character dialog a lot, it made the game progression easier to follow. Some of the scarier aspects of the books/movies are glossed over, so it makes the plot pretty choppy.

The game played well but there is more battle modes than I prefer. The battles where you volley your swords back and forth seem way to hard and long. I like games that offer long play with easy challenges and secrets to find. Harry potter years 1-4 was exactly that type of gaming, but years 5-7 has a higher difficulty level. I still enjoyed playing but it did stress the hands (to where they hurt) to battle.

I originally did not give this game a good review. It is sooooo very different from the Lego Harry Potter years 1-4….. I quickly became frustrated and gave up on it. However, I picked it up and started playing it again from beginning to end and I am now comfortable in giving it four stars.I wasn’t crazy about dueling at first. I read someone else’s comment that all you had to do was keep hitting the “y” button and you will eventually win. So I did that for a while and it was totally tedious. Instead, if you use the “b” button to block spells, the spells sometimes rebound on your dueling partner and then you can use the “y” button to finish them off. This makes dueling MUCH better! I liked the dueling club portion of the game. Each level has an unlockable character in it.There is no need to use the stylus in this game. I didn’t like that at first….but I actually enjoyed it the more I played it. You use the left and right buttons to scroll through the spells you want to use (shown on the lower screen) and you use the “x” button to scroll through your inventory of characters.I can’t speak for others…..but MY copy of this game kept crashing between dueling club levels. However, since I had plenty of money, I decided to try turning off the extras (studs x2, etc) ……and once I did that, my ds stopped crashing.I’m glad I gave this game a second chance. It’s not bad…..just different.

My son said this was a good game, and he talked about it a lot but he seemed to finish it pretty fast.He also never bothered to go back and do any of the “cleanup” parts of the game to get 100%, so it definitely didn’t hold his interest as much as other games he’s played.

The first lego DS game I ever played was Lego HP years 1-4. It was the best, most enjoyable game I’d played in a long time. I immediately ordered the sequel off ebay, along with Legos Indiana Jones DS and Star Wars DS. Due to a bad transaction I didn’t get the HP game, but the others came and while the control mechanics are different from HP 1-4, they are still awesome games that I’ve fallen in love with.I say all this because after reading reviews here, and elsewhere, on HP 5-7 DS, I was expecting a lousy game. When I finally did get the game, I was upset, but not because it’s a bad game. I was upset because it’s a great game that has recieved unfair pans.No, this game isn’t as good as the first one, mainly because you don’t use the stylus. Yes, it’s true the “cutscenes” are of horrible quality, but that’s not the end of the world. This game follows the same formula as the other Lego DS games, and controls like them. If you only compare this game to HP 1-4, that’s unfair. Because to me, HP 1-4 DS broke the mold on all Lego DS games. But if you love that game, yet also love all the other Lego DS games, then you have nothing to worry about if you buy this one. It has all the charm and enjoyability of all the other Lego DS games. Plus a huge bonus is that your party only consists of one on screen character, so that means there is no tag-along character to get in your way. That was my only peeve about the other Lego DS games.In conclusion: I seriously love this game.
