Lumines, a PSP launch game, is quite the entertaining piece of software. Combining graphics with music, the player is treated to a harmonious experience that makes Lumines such a unique game. The game, even though a launch title, doesn’t show much age. The graphics are quite simple like most puzzlers, but has a nice glossy coat on top to make it stand out compared to a game like Tetris. The music matches the flashy graphics, with songs that range from pop, techno, dance and more. There are many levels, and every level has its own music track and matching graphics, and there are many to unlock! There are also many modes of play: single player, two-player (Ad-hoc), puzzle, etc. Puzzle Mode, while initially fun, gets a bit tedious down the line. For example, you are made to make blocks in the shape of a dog, but later on you will be asked to make two dogs, which doesn’t really provide the player with a fresh experience, but playing just to get it over with.PROS+ Nice new puzzle game concept+ Nice graphics and music+ Many unique levels+ Two-player Ad-hoc mode+ Many things to unlockCONS- Puzzle Mode can get tedious- No online playOverall, this is a very good game, and if you love puzzle games like Tetris and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, you’ll love Lumines!

This game is one of the most fun ones I have ever played. I was and still am addicted to it; it never really seems to get old. Gamespot’s review is pretty good; the only things I will say is that Vs. CPU mode is difficult and puzzle mode is even harder. The levels being sequential does get old after a while, BUT… if you go through the entire game twice (looping, as in you don’t die), the levels after that appear in a different order. (i.e., it doesn’t go from Lights to Shinin’.)This game is fantastic and I’d say any person with a PSP who even remotely likes puzzle type games should own it. The soundtrack is excellent as well, particularly the second level’s theme. I purchased it and love that as well.

Much like Tetris has become the standard puzzler for the Gameboy systems, Lumines defines puzzle games for the PSP.GAMEPLAY:Instead of building lines, as in Tetris, you build squares of varying sizes, similar to Puyo-Puyo or Super Puzzle Fighter. This basic gameplay, in and of itself, does nothing to distinguish it from the puzzler crowd, though no one has ever complained about the puzzle formula before. The catch is that a Time Line passes over the playing field at varying intervals depending on the song you are currently playing. Your blocks will not clear until the line passes over them. This allows you to build your blocks in size, build mutiple blocks or just plain scramble to get a block cleared before you get a stack that touches the top. The larger your blocks and the more blocks you get cleared per pass, the higher your score multiplyer. This adds another layer to the basic puzzle strategy. In addition to the basic challenge mode (play as long as you can), there is a puzzle mode which asks you to build certain shapes within a time limit. This can be challenging and requires a lot of though to get some of the puzzles. There’s also a versus mode which you can play against another PSP-owning friend, or against the computer. In this mode, the player clearing more blocks gains more of the screen, giving the other player less room to work with. This tends to unbalance the game, as someone who gets down early will have a hard time clearing blocks with little space.

Obviously this a Tetris style puzzle game. The music is amazing and goes with the game the way a fat kid goes with cake. This game is way better than Tetris ever was. Lummies has a colorful backround and is VERY addicting. This is a very good pick up and play game. I perfer this game over Mercury although I like both. I am also an action gamer and don’t even really like puzzle games!

At first I thought that this game was going to not hold my attention – now when I am not playing it my son is…totally addictive…as a matter of fact it my turn so I can’t type more.

To everyone who gave this game anything under 4 stars needs to retire from the video game world. To all of you who complain that this game is to hard…go take a nap. This game is a little complicated at first but TRUST ME!! You will catch on very quickly and you will fall in love. (I made it to level 14 on my first try and currently get up to 78). This game is pretty hard when it comes to the vs. cpu mode but thats what makes it what is is. Graphics are great, sound is great, everything is great. My favorite part of the game is when I work so hard to unlock a new skin (which can take very long by the way) and i finally get it it’s like i just cured cancer.Get this game now. ORDER NOW!!!!!!!Shake ya body, shake ya body, shake ya body down to the ground……

Fun and addicting game. One of the best out there for the PSP. You’ll spend hours playing it.

Lumines is a great puzzle game, that is similar to tetris, but a whole new beast in its own way. Basically if you like tetris you’ll love lumines. The pace of the game picks up quickly just like the music. Throughout the game you will be playing to different beats (music) and skins (backgrounds). The game evolves into a fast paced race to match similar cubes into square patterns, before you run out of space. That is pretty much it. Its kind of hard to explain how Lumines works, you get a square that contains 4 smaller squares, each level only consists of 2 colors for example red and white. Basically you need to match the colors into square or rectangle patterns. It seems easy but will quickly prove otherwise. I have a good 30 hours invested in the game and I still havent beat it. Overall it is a fun puzzle game that is great for killing time.

This is the most addictive game I’ve encountered in a LONG time — just a good ol’ simple puzzle game that becomes more and more challenging as your skills improve. It sort of reminds me of Tetris, but much more sophisticated, and the different game skins are a lot of fun. Two problems with it — First, my husband and I almost ended up fighting over the PSP to get in some Lumines game time (my husband suggested we should have bought two PSPs,). Second, the music really gets embedded into your brain after a couple of plays. It’s rough trying to go to sleep at night when you have “Shake Ya Body” playing relentlessly in your head. I should probably play the game with the sound shut off …
