So last years madden sucked, plain and simple. I bought it and played it maybe 5 times. So my neighbor picked up 08′ yesterday, and I stopped by to test the waters. Needless to say Madden is back. First off you’ll notice it’s animations are awesome. Grahics are great, and there are so many upgrades. What really makes the difference is the speed of the game. It’s fast! It feels like the good old maddens of old. Your flying around, like a real game. Plus the control of the players is great. No more trying to go one way and you go the other. I went out immediately and bought my copy. The 360 version si the way to go.

I had gotten away from playing Madden and its counterpart, NCAA, in the past year, but since I bought an Xbox 360 I figured I would get the latest incarnation. This is still the best football game there is, with in-depth play books, great controls and graphics that are finally starting to take advantage of the next-gen potential. New features that I like are the ability to spotlight receivers when on defense, allowing you to devote more attention to big play makers and the fact that some plays have built-in motion by the receivers. However, some of the old annoyances still persist, such as the CPU making impossible plays to come from behind. Two examples of that come from my Broncos franchise in which the CPU consistently makes catches in triple coverage and once ran back a game winning touchdown after I had pulled ahead with the game almost over. The running controls take a bit to get used to, as you now have to cover up the ball when in traffic or you back will probably fumble. This adds realism but is annoying as hell when you fumble 4-5 times a game just because you aren’t used to the controls. I find it easy to hang 100 on teams on the easiest level, but the game gets maddeningly (no pun intended) challenging on higher difficulties. I get mad at it but I keep coming back for more, and that is the sign of a well-made game in my opinion. Gripes aside, you probably can’t do any better than this until at least next year.

finally a very good game for the 360 that rivals ’05 for regular xbox (my favorite madden.. but this might top it). Gone is the choppiness (for the most part) and the horrible cut-scenes to a black tunnel or the back of a scoreboard or whatever. Personally, I don’t care about the radio-announcer. Madden was totally annoying too. Yeah, I agree, they could improve here but the game is near flawless where it counts: gameplay, graphics and presentation. The new animations are great and I dig the realism: you have to think and strategize with this game, unlike any other Madden.Gripes are few.. personally, I don’t like playing in the rain because the mud just looks fake and distracts from the players. Also, why can’t we save a game mid-game? Previous Maddens allowed this.Overall, love it. I was so harsh and critical of 06 and 07 that I never thought I’d enjoy another Madden.. well, here is a vast improvement!

Just got it, popped it in, and, ehhhh. Its Madden, not to much different than previous versions (the framerate has improved over the last 2 next gen versions, so it runs smoother) but they still got a long way to go. The icons are ok, there are different icons for different types of players, such as; cannon arm quaterback, precision qb, elusive rb, etc, etc, along with the number 0-100 ratings(which I prefer), I dont pay much attention to the icons, as a matter of fact I’m going to see if there is an option to have them not pop up at all. The mini games to upgrade your players are enjoyable, although I have no idea what they were thinking with the reciever mini game. I can never track the ball, its like the screen jerks and throws me off, major improvement needed there, also playing the cornerback position is difficult. Now, this is just when you play as that specific player(legend mode). Its much easier to play the reciever/corner positions in regular game play mode by just switching to that player, and using them from that perspective, as the camera doesn’t act all crazy on ya.Game play runs pretty smooth, and the animations are pretty slick. Some clipping between players still occurs, but I’ve gotten so used to that it doesnt really bother me, and it doesnt effect the overall gameplay anyway, ( I’m not one of those folks who complain “WHAT, his big toe just went thru that dudes heel, this game is garbage!”) Get over it already.Presentation is what will take Madden over the.

  5. Mindless Analytical

Madden 08 is nice to play until the actual NFL season starts up again. Overall, the graphics is a marked improvement from last seaon’s (Madden 2007). I guess the only grumble is why are they still using some generic radio voice guy for the play by play. You don’t even hear the trademarked Madden one-liners anymore, like the previous versions of Madden games back in the early days.

I bought Madden NFL 08 because it is the only NFL sim around and I wanted to have the most recent roster. Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine that this game would be so great. I popped it in my 360 and from the time I clicked Start till I turned it off I enjoyed it. If you want a true NFL experience this is the game to get. I used Michael Vick and he sounds like him when making snap counts at the line.If you can get the game here for cheap then it is way more than your $$ worth.
