I stumbled upon MLB Slugfest 2004 at a thrift store for only a dollar. For a used game it plays very well. The graphics are decent and I would recommend the game to baseball fans.

If you want a baseball game get Slugfest 2004. It is a lot better then last year. The announcing is great. Although they only give you a certain amount of players for home run derby. The fighting makes it even more awsome. Get this game!

First things first: this is not a baseball simulation game. It is an arcade-style baseball game and, therefore, is perfect for people who are not hardcore baseball fans (like me). You don’t have to worry about pitch location and bat location on your swing, you simply play arcade-style baseball, which, IMO, is why this game is so fun.The game is not meant to be taken seriously. If you get two hits in a row, you are on fire, literally, and all of your stats increase. If you are the pitcher and you strike out three batters, you get on fire and have unlimited turbo (although it is not impossible to hit an on fire pitcher, it is all about timing). You can bean batters, either knocking them down and reducing their stats or infuriating them and having them charge the mound, making them "on fire," and increasing their stats. You can slide cleats first into a base, punch the 1st/2nd/3rd baseman or shortstop & knock the ball out of his hands, punch people to tag them out, etc. This is not meant to be a serious baseball game. It is an arcade game and, as such, is done very well. If you are looking for a serious game, I have heard that MVP Baseball 2004 if great (I have not played it b/c, as I stated before, I am into arcade-style baseball). The bottom line: If you want a fun game that is not a baseball simulation, pick this one up. It is the type of game that you merely put into the machine and play . . . no instruction really needed. However, if sim baseball games are your.

I love baseball very much and I generally enjoy realism in video games, but have found most of the sports games frankly post-SNES to be difficult to get the controls down. With baseball games, for example, I cannot stand having to locate my swing where the pitch is going to be, adjust the power bar, etc etc etc. I just like being able to press one button to swing the darn bat and time the swing well – have the timing be the major factor, in other words. So I do think while realism is important with some genres of games, I much prefer the game being FUN, since it is a video GAME. This is kind of like the baseball version of NBA Jam.SO, that being my intro to this review, this game achieves being quite fun and very replayable. My review is less of any sort of format and more of just “random notes” about the game:First and foremost, you can punch guys. You can sometimes punch guys such that they drop the ball and you can try to steal the next base. You can also punch guys just for fun if you are on the defense. Sometimes you will basically get punching matches which don’t really result in anything other than it is fun and great in a baseball game! Next, you can slide tackle guys. See above for the effects. Lastly, the game has an “On Fire” effect where a player becomes on fire and thus all abilities are hyper-increased and no turbo is used. Like beaning guys? You will find quickly that this may result in the guy you bean charging the mound and sometimes getting on fir.

This was our son’s 2nd foray into sports games (had Madden 2003 Football, but never got the hang of the controls, etc.). He has loved it since the 1st play, and Dad (even Mom!) have fun playing. There are a variety of pitches available, as well as hitting and fielding options. Hitting a batter with a pitch causes them to get consumed by fire and run after the pitcher. I believe the violence complaints are unwarranted — no worse than the kind found in Sly Cooper or Ratchet & Clank, and most of the “fights” are done off-screen, showing reactions from the other players. We allow NO violent games, and I have allowed this one, without reservations. With its great commentary (funny and sharp), realistic rendering of stadiums and wide variety of options, I’d say it’s a great game for the younger or amateur player. Serious baseball players would probably rather have the realism of MVP or the like.

This game is of the hook. You can punch and kick people to get on base, you can catch on fire and get your speed on your fastball back, you can get a guy out from the outfield and rob him of a single, even when you hit a batter they can lose strength or they can run after the pitcher. if you have the money then you should buy this game.
