The constant quest for new gear to fight new beasts to get new gear has kept me engaged for many hours. However, I can’t give it a full 5 stars because even though each monster hunt feels different, as does each weapon, the combat can often feel as if I’m just doing the same thing over and over again, especially when I need to fight the same monster multiple times to get enough resources. Changing to a new weapon can eliviate this problem for some time, but doing so takes time.
I liked the game very much. At first I was worried to play without the Circle pad pro for my 3DS XL because some reviews say that the camera was difficult but that was not the case. It worked exactly as the PSP version, MHFU, and it has a better frame rate so the turns and pans were faster and smoother.It’s easier a little than the other versions, but that is not a bad thing. The text boxes are difficult to read and turning off the 3d effect does not help a lot. That is odd because the previous game in this engine, Resident Evil Revelations, showed text in excellent contrast and detail.I’m very happy with my purchase and i expect to enjoy a lot of this game.
This game is pretty frustrating yet highly rewarding for those who are both patient and resilient. Great action, fairly methodical, definitely need a clear head and be prepared to think on your feet to enjoy this one thoroughly. Well worth the money.
I’m generally not a fan of grinding, yet I found myself enjoying this game despite that being the central focus of it. This is a game where story is secondary to the completion of repetitive tasks that level up your character, but there is actually a surprising amount of fun to be had here. The monsters you encounter vary in size and fearsomeness, ranging from things like goofy pink apes to strong, gigantic dragons. There are a variety of weapons available, and although you may find most of them to be very cumbersome to use, they are also kind of fun to use.I would not really be able to recommend this game if it were only single-player. The story is very weak and not that interesting, and grinding alone can get very frustrating. Luckily, this game seems to have been made with multiplayer almost exclusively in mind. Playing this with friends raises the experience from 3 stars to 5. It is so much fun to team up with a few buddies and go hunting, especially if each player specializes in a different type of weaponry. Personally, I like to use a Light Bowgun and attack from a distance while my friends fight up close. Making a team effort to kill or capture some big monsters can be a great way to kill a few hours. Another great feature is the support of cross gameplay between the 3DS and Wii U.My main gripe with this game is that it doesn’t support online play. For a game released in 2013 that places such a large emphasis on multiplayer, this makes zero sense. For that, I’ve detrac.
The game arrived relatively quickly and the packaging was perfect. As for game play, I’ve only been playing for about an hour and I’m already hooked. There is so much to do and see and I haven’t even gotten to the core of it yet. Would recommend it to anyone who loves RPG’s or adventure games.
I already know this was a good game when I bought it for my friend, but what i didn’t know was that there was only local play no online. Not cool, defeats the purpose of playing this with him if he has to come over to my house to join my game while i play it on Wii u. I still give this product 4/5 because the game is still great.
The Monster Hunter series has always brought a different level of challenge to the world of RPG big boss killing.You’ll be forced to limit your inventory (and only take back home what is precious to you,) discover hundreds of combinations to make everyday supplies and get overwhelmingly frustrated at the fact you can’t change weapons in the field (because there are thousands of weapons and you’ll probably need them all at some point.) Hey, if you can’t handle those few things though, this isn’t the game for you.Graphics: For the 3DS, these are pretty good graphics even if you’re not using the 3DSxl.Controls: Underwater battles will be terrifyingly frustrating without a circle pad pro. The rest of the game though, you’ll do just fine on boss monsters with a ‘target lock-on’ feature that auto directs your camera for you.Multiplayer: Local wifi network dependent which is terrible. None of my friends enjoy this series as much as I do, but hey I can solo an entire game and still find it fun.Story: There never really is much of a story to the Monster Hunter games. Go out, hack up a few beasts, build better weapons and armor, repeat the process. Now there are a lot of ins-and-outs that make the game very strategy heavy though.All in all, if you can get it for the Wii or WiiU you’d be better off. The Multiplayer is great on those versions. However, if you’re a solo kind of guy and want to take it with you this is a definite buy.
Good game but the controls are a pain in the rear and take some getting used to. Otherwise I like the game and would recommend I really love that I can pass my progress between my Gameboy and the wii u.
You can play multiplayer with someone playing on a Wii U!My SO and I are able to play this together thanks to that function. Being of the glasses nation, the setup of the screen on the 3DS version really bothered me, but with the Wii U I can utilize my massive LCD TV or even play on the Wii U’s gamepad while we watch a movie. Makes for a really fun evening.Gets a little repetitive once you get to the point where you have to grind before being able to take the next quest or hunt the next baddie, but mix this up with a little Mariokart 8 and you’re all set. Plus you get to hang out with cute kitty people and dress up a little piggy!
I found this game much easier to get into than its past predecessors. It takes an old familiar play style classic to the monster hunter series and adds a few refined touches to the mix. This is perfect for those who have tried to get into the monster hunter series in the past but just couldn’t due to the high difficulty curve. There is a tutorial (which takes awhile to go through) for each game mechanic which helps ease the player into the role of a monster hunter. things such as trapping, gathering resources, monster slaying, farming, fishing, and smithing are all explained to help familiarize the player instead of forcing them to figure it out on their own.Players go around getting better armor by slaying monsters and gathering materials. This time around Capcom has tried to put in a bit of a story, but its just a thinly veiled excuse to push the player forward into the grind for better gear and armor. Don’t let this deter you, battles get more epic as you go up in rank and more time is spent preparing and coordinating for the real big ones. What I have really liked about this game is the ability to pair up with friends to take down large monsters. each player chooses their preferred weapons of choice and work together to take down the big ones. There is such a thrill working with friends and coordinating that all shortcomings for the game are minimal. My one gripe about this though is that the 3DS version does not support a wifi connection or online play. Multiplayer must.

I bought this for my son’s 3DS and he loves it. We also have the wii U version and the two of us can now play co-op missions together, me on the big screen and him on his 3DS. The local multiplayer is a blast with a wii U / 3DS combo!Great game all around…very addictive. I think i’ve put 200 hours into the wii U version.

And it is a blast! Buyer beware: This game has a very steep learning curve (like an Armored Core or Demons/Dark Souls type game) and it is not exactly a pick up and play kind of game. It can be very involving and calls for a lot of time, but this is countered by the 3DS’s sleep mode which allows you to add a great deal of the pick up and play aspect to the game. It is a must buy for anyone 3DS owner who loves a challenge and a steep learning curve. Hunting the hige monster brings a certain level of satisfaction you don’t get with many other games.

As a fan of this series, I love this game. Being able to take it out and play with my friends is always fun. I love playing online too on the Wii U version and the game lets you switch from WiiU to 3DS (and vise versa) as you please. Hunting monsters and making weapons and armor from them is a concept I really enjoy. The need to get the best equipment and seeing all the monsters is what keeps me playing.

If you played the original Monster Hunter for PS2, expect to see familiar monsters and wyverns with just different names/traits. Amazing multiplayer game to play with friends and even better to kill time when you’re on your own.

I have this game for the Wii U also and I absolutely love it. The 3D aspect actually makes me a little sick to play t but thats because I don’t have an XL. However, that is not a negative thing at all since this game doesn’t even need 3D. I play it all the time because its mobile and it pauses when you close the 3DS in single player mode. The only downside is that online is only possible by a wired internet connected Wii U or by being local. But you can just have friends over or go to their house to play. It has so many cool weapons and monsters to kill. It gets really addicting and doesn’t get old unless you’re farming a monster for parts. I’d recommend trying the demo before buying though because as fun as it is, not everyone can get into it.
