Being a big fan, I have seen almost every movie about Ali. This documentary is the best by far. Ali was so much more than a great boxer. The greatest of all time. So happy to have lived in the era of Muhammad Ali
the greatest
fabulous to watch
This documentary goes in depth and reveals deeper layers of Muhammed Ali.
I really loved this documentary even though parts of it was hard to watch. I learned a lot about one of my “No one can beat Muhammad Ali ” childhood heroes. Never knew much about his Cassius Clay start and the racism he faced. By the time I came around I thought everybody loved Ali.
Muhammad Ali was and is the greatest sports Icon of all time. No, one, figure in sports looms larger. He is America’s greatest heroic figure and a beacon of the true American spirit to the world. He, as an American, stood up to the injustices instead of falling in line with the status quo, he stood up to violence overseas instead of blindly following propaganda and “false patriotism”. He used his freedom of speech, was honest with himself and others on social matters and stood firm and took his punishment instead of dodging it. He was beautifully flawed like all great heroes but in the end he still looms large as the greatest. The internationally appreciated and understood sport of Boxing was his work, but his platform was that of the world stage, to this day he is the Icon of Icons. RIP Ali
Lots of people had a real hard time with what he wanted to be called and a few even paid the price for it. One thing is certain when anyone anywhere says “The Greatest” everyone knows who that is. I must have seen 20 Muhammad Ali documentaries this one does a good job of not just picking an era but shows his whole life, amazing amatuer footage and pre Olympic candids were a great bonus of things I had never seen. It does it all, Malcom, politics, Muslim era, all of it. Really good fight footage, lost interviews, lots of good stuff I had never seen. One of the best Ali documentaries ever. Perhaps even the greatest…
‘Muhammed Ali’ changed his name from ‘Cassius Clay’ because he converted to Islam and did not wish to keep a name that he thought originated with white slave masters. The profound irony is that the original, ‘Cassius Clay’, for whom he was named, was one of the most staunch and heroic abolitionists of the Civil War era, a man who even under direct threat of death stood proudly against slavery. Meanwhile, the Islamic prophet, Mohammed, directly engaged in and promoted slavery, and according to Islamic sources, was quite proud of the whiteness of his skin while often referring to blacks as ‘raisin heads’. True facts, folks.
very well done. beautiful storytelling of america’s greatest hero.
