NBA 2K3 powers forward with the kind of improvement that only results from an off-season dedicated to perfection. Imagine jump shots so real players actually adjust their movement in mid-air, based on distance from the hoop and defensive pressure; a passing touch that gives you the control to skirt a defender or air-out a fast break; dribble moves that let you jab left, rock right, crossover, and spin; and much more. No other game delivers the physical element of basketball like this: accurate impact from collisions, especially hard fouls and authoritative dunks; shot blocking with emphasis on precise hand-to-ball contact; and the ability to lunge for the loose ball, even if it means ending up on some celebrity’s lap.

Matthieu P. Raillard –
NBA 2K3 is still the most realistic bball simulation out there. If you like arcade action, get Live, but if you enjoy strategy and actually fighting for a good shot, this is your game.THE GOOD: Amazing depth. Great franchise mode, tons of customizable options (AI, camera angles, almost anything that happens on court can be tweaked). The graphics are solid, as is the control and the sound. Tons of replay value, a very realistic ball game.THE BAD: The passing game is atrocious. Players will often lob passes to a team mate that’s 5 feet away, and forget about running a fast break–players tend to stop when catching a pass. The opposing team still shoots a very high FG%, and the opposing PG will usually torch you for 30 pts. I also dislike the lack of realism in dunks, since I once saw the CPU pull of a 360 jam in traffic on a 7foot center with… 40 year old, 6-ft John Stockton. Players also tend to lose their dribble when attempting a juke, which is annoying.THE UGLY: the commentators often say the wrong things, like “Great three point basket!” after you nail a dunk. The menus aren’t intuitive at first, and the shameless ESPN plugs are REALLY annoying. I don’t need to be reminded to watch Sportscenter, thank you very much.
