I wanted to leave it alone after about the first 15 min of romantic dialogue that added nothing to the film (for me), but I persevered to find this story highly unexpectedly enjoyable. It appears to go one direction for a while and then makes some surprising turns before the final scene. I recommend it. It’s visually wonderful and the themes and messages are thoughtful. I’m sure it’s even better high. 😌😁

This movie was so much better than I thought it would be. It also definitely answers questions from No Game No Life series.Highly recommend watching even if you haven’t seen NGNL!

Tl:dr-> fan subtitles are better than the ones in the official retail, kinda disappointing, but expected.Like – bluray of an anime i likedislike – settings in current blu rays are less beneficial than dvds from 15 years ago, and i would know. Subtitles should be on off, 1/2/3 options for none/english/japanese. The subtitles are lazy at best (has seen better from people adding subtitles, both in font format and truer translations to the language as opposed to the rather blocky translation). ALSO, music -> subtitles should be proper kanji with furigana + roomaji or english as optional.Aside from the lack of menu and language options and those options being meh, it is still the story i like in hq, so i can’t dock too much off it, but it’s very lazy from the producer of these to have something subpar to fan translations.

You’re certainly going to want to watch the series before this movie, as it shuns too much exposition. That said… WOW!No Game No Life was always visually amazing, and this is, as well. The story is fast-paced, and while it seems to rush a few things, you pick up fairly soon that it was deliberate. In such a world, some things must happen faster than they do in reality. It’s heavy, but it’s careful. This is one that knows very well anime is a world full of the unexpected, and it does seem to enjoy leading you down one hypothesis after another, which keeps you involved and engaged.Plenty of mystery remains after watching, which adds to the experience. I don’t want to go into any detail, because confusion is part of the ride. Know that ahead of time. It’s not all going to be explained, but the pieces you need to put together your own interpretation are provided. This doesn’t hold your hand, it doesn’t slap a message in your face, and it doesn’t stick entirely to tradition. You are clearly intended to come up with some of your own beliefs in relation to the characters and their actions, and that’s a wonderful thing.Everyone will come away with a different perspective.Oh… And the combat… Honestly, from a sound and visual perspective, this is likely the absolute best you’ll ever see. It’s beautiful; as if Rembrandt somehow got hold of more color. It actually reminds me a lot of Heaven’s Lost Property, in that respect, but with a bigger budget. So, even if you’re not i.

You will probably love this movie! This story arc was my favorite part of the light novel (stopped reading after the mermaid arc.. q.q was waiting for more translations) and at least for me this was a amazing animated version of it.Great animations.. Emotional ride.. Hit all the right buttons for me! It was enough to make me write my first review on the site :P

The movie is a stark contrast to the lighthearted anime series where murder is forbidden and everything is settled through games. Over 6,000 years prior to the anime, death is almost a certainty as the various races struggle to survive in the war-torn hellscape they’ve created. We follow the main character Riku, trying to prevent what’s left of humanity from getting wiped out in this war of magic and science.I greatly enjoyed the movie. Yes, it feels rushed at times, but it can’t be helped squeezing what would normally be 5 hours (12 episodes of 25 minutes) down to under 2 hours. The oppressive mood caused by the constant struggle of war and the ever-present toxic Black Ash in the air reminded me of “Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind” with a similar dystopian environment and struggle of peace-loving people trying to survive a war they cannot win. Missing, too, is the anime’s focus on games and game theory, as this is prior to the ascendancy of Tet, the God of Games, and his Ten Pledges that formalized their rules. Instead, games become a side plot mechanism, and political maneuvering becomes more prominent. However, one of the main struggles of the main character, Riku, is how humans… without the magic of the Elves or Flugel, the science and engineering of the Dwarves, or the physical prowess of the Warbeasts, let alone the raw power of the Old Gods… deal with the futility of survival when they have no power to meaningfully affect the outcome of the war. The the.
