after buying i didn’t think i would like the game but after receiving the game it took a little time to get the game to start but that is to be expected (I have 170 games for this system) and the label showes wear and tare (i have games with worse and no label) but still very happy

I thought I would never see or play this game again.when I saw this I had to buy it and thank god for the retro machines cause my nes died a long time ago.this game brings back alot of memories I used to go to the arcades and play this all the time very happy to have it again!!

Popeye is an arcade game based off of the old television cartoon show (which is still being watched on Boomerang, by the way). While the game didn’t really grow as popular as games like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man, it was a cult classic. You play as Popeye, and you must catch whatever Olive throws down (Hearts, music notes, H E L P letters). Each level has Olive throwing down different things. Of course, there’s also Bluto trying to get in your way. If you get close to him, it’s likely that he will throw wine bottles at you. You gotta break them by punching them. If you get farther in the game, a witch would probably come and throw skulls at you, too. Each level has different gimmicks. The first has nothing, actually. The second level has a seesaw you can use to reach a platform unreachable by doing everything else. The third level shows Olive being captured by a bird. The bird is another obstacle which you can hurt by punching.Graphics and sounds are faithful to the arcade game.Overall, it’s a great arcade game that fits in well with the NES.

Popeye was one of the popular 80’s arcade game that got ported over to NES. Like most of the arcade ports, the graphics were severely downgraded and some of the levels were modified to save cartridge space. Yet that does not mean Popeye on NES is not fun. It brings me joy to collect the spinach and knock the Bruno guy into the water. It is fun to figure out Bruno’s next move and evade him while still collecting the items needed to complete the level. It didn’t bring the arcade game home perfectly, but it did keep the fun to a maximum and the music untouched.

Much like nes donkey Kong this is just a 3 screen arcade port with repeating stages and increased difficulty after stage 3. So there is not much to this one but I still give it 5 stars because it’s an excellent arcade port. I actually like it more than donkey Kong though I’m probably in the minority with that one. You have to collect the items olive ( or olive oil, e.v.o.o… whatever her name is) drops its hearts, then music notes then the letters spelling help or help me something like that. Anyway gets far harder on stage four once it repeats stage 1 for the first time, great game though. If you only get one early 3 screen arcade port I say this is a great option.

Husband is a Popeye fanactic! Was very glad to find this game on retrolio. Bought it immediately. Everyone who visits comments on it. They call it ‘old school’ gaming.
