There have been a lot of reviews published on retrolio about this game, and by now you’ve probably read them all. If you did, you must have noticed that people tend to either really like it or really hate it, with the “likes” outnumbering the dislikes but not by a huge margin. So even after reading you may still be in the dark about whether this game is for you. With that in mind, I’m going to skip a regylar review and try to answer your question by addressing what I think is the central issue as to this game. But first, let me list the fighters who are included, b/c I don’t think anyone else has. They are:Akira Shoji — Alexander Otsuka — Alan Goes – Dan Henderson – Guy Mezger — Gary Goodridge — Gilbert Yvel — Enson Inoue — Carlos Newton — Heath Herring — Igor Volvchanchyn — Kazushi Sakurabi – Katsuki Fujita – Ken Shamrock — Ricardo Arona –Don Frye – Semmy Schilt — Nobuhiku Takada – Renzo Gracie – Antonio Rodgrigo Nogueria (“Big Nog”) — Daijiro Matsui — Murilo “Ninja” Rua — Royce Gracie — Wanderlei Silva — Tom EriksonSo, as you can see, there are a lot of PRIDE and MMA legends here, but also some rather glaring absences. No Fedor or Aleks Emilianenko, no Antonio Rogerio Nogueria (“Li’l Nog”), no Mark Coleman (a particularly egregious absence, considering this game is essentially a reconstruction of the legendary 2000 Pride Open Weight Grand Prix, which Coleman won), no Mirko Cro Cop, no Anderson Silva, no Shogun Rua, no Rampage Jackson, no Alistair or Valentij.

This blows UFC Tapout out of the water. For the reviewer who complained about the AI being inconsistent its because the creators made the fighters the way they are: good fighters are good and bad fighters are weak. If you’re not a fan of MMA (mixed martial arts) you should know that most of the moves that the fighters do are moves they actually do in the ring. So if a fighter is huge puncher he can knock you out with one clean punch regardless of your health or stamina, or you can be submitted regardless of your health or stamina. They went out of their way to make this as realistic as possible. The feature that takes the cake on this game though is the "Create a Fighter" mode; its unreal and the best I have seen for any fighting game. There are a ton of faces and physical characteristics to choose from (most of the are faces of other fighters that didn’t make the game) and a ton of moves to choose from. You can choose a unique move for every position available, it can be a little labor intensive if you want it to be. You can also choose your entrance music, the stance of your fighter, the way he walks when called by the ring announcer, the way he walks to the ring, and the way he celebrates after winning. You can see all of this in "Grand Prix" mode (tournament). If you like fighting type games this is one of the best.

PrideFC for the PS2 is the best Mixed Martial Arts game yet to be made. Not only does it feature some of the world’s best fighters it has the most realistic fighting engine yet. With stand up fighting, guard, and mount being featured. The move set is deep and fighter specific. Also, created fighters can be totaly customized from looks to the moves of your choice from all fighting positions. I would recomend this game to any MMA fan or anyone who would like a realistic fighting game. You won’t find sonic booms or fireballs but you will find the most realistic fighter for the PS2. If you think you can handel it pop it in and step in the ring with Ken Shamrock, just be ready to tap.

Great Game. Lots of Fun. Create your own Fighter, realistic fighting techniques, FOr an older game console still great. 5 out of 5 from Me…
