Crash Bandicoot 2

In the second game of the series, Crash is taken captive by the evil Doctor Neo Cortex. The crash is thrust into several parts of N. Sanity Island to gather Crystals that will allow Cortex to contain the power of an upcoming planetary alignment and keep the planet from being destroyed. In addition, the gameplay is similar to the first game, with Crash tasked with collecting the level crystal in 25 stages. Your abilities include jumping on enemies, sliding, spinning tornadoes, and performing body slams to deter enemies. Lastly, apart from the 25 levels, there are Bonus Paths spread across the game, where you can gain additional health and power-ups and finding them all is guaranteed to be a fun challenge.

Gran Turismo

The best-selling PS1 title, Gran Turismo, was the most complex racing game of its time. It features an astonishing 140 cars and 11 race tracks, Arcade and Simulation modes. In the Arcade mode, you can choose your car and track, unlocking more as you win races. On the other hand, in Simulation mode, you will be earning different driver’s licenses to unlock new events, earn credits and win your way through its tournaments.

Tomb Raider

This action-adventure title has you play as Lara Croft, an archaeologist hired to find an artifact called the Scion of Atlantis. On your quest, you will be tasked with clearing complex areas, solving puzzles and battling enemies. Lastly, the game received high appraisal for its detailed graphics, captivating story and engaging gameplay and went on to spawn one of the most acclaimed series in video game history.

Metal Gear Solid

A pioneer of the stealth genre, Metal Gear Solid has you play as Solid Snake. You are a special force operative tasked with neutralizing a nuclear threat posed by FOXHOUND, a renegade particular terrorist unit. You will navigate a nuclear facility trying to avoid being detected by guards. However, you can do this through various means, including crawling, ducking, taking cover and deploying the famous box method. Lastly, you can unlock a special survival mission if you finish the game. It will task you with finishing ten stages under a seven-minute time limit for additional fun.

Spyro The Dragon

In this acclaimed platformer, you will be playing Spyro, a dragon on a quest to save the five Homeworlds from the evil Gnasty Gnorc. Lastly, the game is easy to play and features fun, family-friendly graphics, making it an excellent fit for gamers of all ages!

Final Fantasy VII

This highly acclaimed JRPG follows Cloud Strife. He is a mercenary who joins an eco-terrorist organization to stop a world-controlling megacorporation from using the planet’s life essence as an energy source. Lastly, the game is a staple of the series and is the first Final Fantasy title to use full motion video and 3D computer graphics, superimposing 3D character models over 2D pre-rendered backgrounds.

  • The PlayStation was initially planned as a CD add-on to the Super Nintendo. But after a falling out with Nintendo, Sony decided to make their system.
  • 102 million consoles were sold before the PS1 was discontinued in 2004.
