Like I mentioned in the title, PS2 games will not work on this specific machine. PS1 games will though but with very noticeable pixels. I’ve owned it for over a year now and have experience freezing with surfing the internet and Fallout New Vegas only. I’ve beat the heck out of the controller a few times playing Black Ops and it’s still functioning normal. The slender size is convenient but requires more room around the machine for air flow. 1080p looks amazing and I’m very glad I bought this but my computer still trumps.

I bought this PS3 primarily to be able to (i) attach an external drive and view my backed up movies and (ii) have the flexibility of having a built in blue-ray player. Overall I am very satisfied. I subtracted a star because one of the features touted was the wi-fi connectivity and the promise of streaming from your home pc. I find that I don’t have enough bandwith so just a heads up. The attached external USB 2.0 works like a charm so the wi-fi issue is no big deal. Also be aware that not all attached storage are compatible. I bought a WD 1TB 3.0/2.0 drive which I had to return (see my review for that product). By the way, I am resisting buying games for the PS3 because I know my kids would take over and I’ll be left watching my old tube tv. Overall a good product.

This is my second playstation 3. I bought my first PS3 to use as a gaming machine, but eventually realized it was more than just a gaming device. Among other things, it is also a Blu-ray player, and a very good one at that. Movies can be controlled with the PS3 game controller, but I bought Sony’s hand held remote, which is more like the remotes that come with a TV. As a blu-ray player, it functions just like a dedicated blu-ray device, not like a multi-purpose afterthought. In addition, if you are wired for the internet, it acts like a TV or computer, and streams Netflix movies, Hulu programs, and music, assuming you subscribe to these features. It does more, too. I’ve poked around on the PS3 menus, but haven’t explored all the features available. There is a lot there, however. These other capabilities are also available on a computer, but I thought Netflix streaming was actually more convenient on the PS3.I use my PS3 for watching movies about 3/4 of the time, and gaming for the rest. Basically, I’m getting a blu-ray player and a gaming machine for $250. In fact, I see no reason to buy a dedicated blu-ray player for my home theater; So that makes my gaming device seem like a better deal. Game quality varies from game to game. Some new games seem to be much farther along on the cutting edge of technology with better graphics and more realistic environments.

My son bought this PlayStation for his Mom and Dad. We needed a blue ray player and he felt this was a better deal for us. Now we can keep our system updated when necessary. I have also discovered that playing some of the games is pretty fun. At age (over 60) I am enjoying Fat Princess. I am in no way as accomplished a player as my son, but now I can play some games too. We like the look and design of the PlayStation too. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a game play machine or a blue ray player.

I purchased this PlayStation 3 as supplement to my current PS3 and as a Blu-ray player replacing a Vizio Blu-ray player that proved to be defective. The ability to play PS3 games in another location, play Blu-ray discs in another location and access Netflix as well as other ‘apps’ in another location convinced me that the extra cost over a replacement Blu-ray player was the prudent choice. It is serving me well in this role.

I bought mine refurbished, but I can’t even tell you what may have been wrong. It works great. The PS3 has a lot of capabilities and I wouldn’t go buy a PS4 just yet…there’s still a lot of games for the PS3 and it’s still quite affordable.
